Description:

This role will have overall responsibility for the management of the Radiotherapy and proton departments at The Christie NHS foundation trust. The post holder will provide a highly visible and authoritative presence ensuring the needs of patients are placed at the centre of care. The post holder is accountable for the effective management of all resources needed to deliver a comprehensive radiotherapy and Proton units including achieving performance targets and longer-term service developments.
The post holder will have well developed leadership and influencing skills with the ability to enthuse, motivate and involve individuals and teams. Being intellectually flexible, with the ability to look beyond existing structures and ways of working to produce a more effective and innovative service delivery. Having sound political judgement and astuteness in understanding and working with complex policy, and diverse interest groups is a necessary quality for the successful applicant.
Responsible for proposing & implementing service/departmental policies/ responsible for policy implementation and service development.
Provide professional leadership to the clinical areas overseeing clinical practice ensuring the highest possible standards of delivery of care are achieved.
Provide expert advice to the Trust and external bodies on Protons and radiotherapy.
Represent the Trust at external committees and meetings.
Development of new services e.g. satellite centres and proton therapy, equipment replacement programme, department redesign.
Ensure staff management strategies appropriately reflect the needs of a diverse and changing staff group.
Ensure all staff related targets are met, ensuring all staff have an annual performance review and have development needs identified in a personal development plan. Also ensuring staff mandatory training targets are met.
Line manage senior radiographic staff ensuring that they are clinically and professionally developed for an efficient, effective, engaged, and highly motivated team.
Ensure that all staff understand and work towards performance targets in all areas including activity, finance, HR, governance and the Division’s strategic agenda.
Hold senior radiographers to account for the delivery of their objectives providing a professional radiographer perspective.
Ensure staff compliance with Trust and departmental policies, HCPC requirements and IR(ME)R legislation.

Clinical Network services division is responsible for the service management of Protons, radiotherapy, Clinical oncology, SACT services, Haematology, Medical oncology, Outpatients, pharmacy and Physics.

RESEARCH AND EDUCATION

Participate in the development of Trust training and education strategies.
Support the development and implementation of education and training programs within the service.
Actively encourage and support the development of research programs.
Maintain mandatory and non-mandatory training and CPD to meet the requirements of the Trust and HPC
Develop and support the maintenance of partnerships with academic institutions, to ensure that the provision of educational opportunities for pre and post registration meets the needs of the changing workforce.
Provide specialist teaching and training to other professional groups.
Review and authorize requests for study leave for the senior teams.
Manage Trust and local induction strategy for Radiotherapy staff groups and service users.
