UITP (International Association of Public Transport) is a passionate champion of sustainable urban mobility and is the only worldwide network to bring together all public transport stakeholders and all sustainable transport modes. We have more than 1,900 member companies coming from over 100 countries. Our members are public transport authorities and operators, policy decision-makers, research institutes and the public transport supply and service industry.

MAIN DUTIES

The Head of Rail Unit is part of the Knowledge & Innovation (K&I) Department and reports directly to the Senior Director and Deputy Director of the department. He/she will lead the Rail Unit Managers and the Rail Officer.
The person will be a key reference (internal and external) in UITP for Urban Rail relative topics, having vision, leadership, and expertise to drive knowledge, animate committees meetings, ensuring the provision of knowledge to the rail Committees (Metro, Light Rail, Regional and Suburban Railways) and to EU -funded projects or other EU / International Institutions, in which the Unit is involved.
He/She will actively manage the Rail Unit team and its capacity, contributing to the development of activities of the Unit and assuring they are in line with the strategic plans, budget and processes.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Develop and implement, together with Sr. Director, the strategy related to the Rail Unit: defining key topics and projects, priorities identified by UITP (Integrated Global Work Programme)
  2. Manage and animate committees of members in the field of urban rail and all related aspects of rail systems; as such be a key knowledge reference for Urban and Sub-urban Rail topics
  3. Coordinate all activities of UITP Rail Unit and ensure smooth distribution of priorities/workload within the unit
  4. Actively contribute to the creation, identification and exploitation of Funded Projects opportunities, in the frame of the new EU Rail research partnership, promoting the presence and role of urban rail stakeholders and the research priorities of urban and suburban rail stakeholders
  5. Supervise and contribute to UITP Academy activities (trainings, peer reviews…) related to urban rail, in close liaison with the Head of Academy
  6. Participate in meetings, workshops, congresses, conferences and all relevant events, representing UITP.
  7. Deliver ad hoc reports, articles or communications and/or guarantee the quality of the communications related to the unit and the rail topics
  8. Promote the association positions by representing urban rail interests in the various UITP Bodies and Platforms at European and International level;
  9. Lead, motivate, manage and supervise the UITP Rail Unit within the K&I Department, under the supervision of the UITP Knowledge and Innovation Sr. Director and Deputy Director
  10.
