POSITION OVERVIEW
As the Head of Research, you will lead a multidisciplinary team of researchers, scientists, and technologists. You will spearhead innovative projects, ensure alignment with Mapsted’s strategic goals, and oversee the translation of groundbreaking research into scalable products. This position is critical to our mission of delivering industry-leading, location-based solutions.
Key ResponsibilitiesStrategic Leadership:
- Define and execute the long-term research strategy, aligned with Mapsted’s business objectives.
- Identify emerging trends in location-based technologies, spatial computing, and AI to guide research priorities.
- Collaborate with executive leadership to integrate research insights into product development and business strategy.
Team Leadership:
- Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing research team across AI, ML, and geospatial domains.
- Foster a collaborative and innovative culture within the research department.
- Attract top talent and manage team growth to meet organizational needs.
Research Innovation:
- Oversee advanced research projects in indoor positioning, location-based AI, and predictive analytics.
- Ensure the timely delivery of high-impact research publications, patents, and prototypes.
- Translate research breakthroughs into practical applications for commercial use.
Collaboration and Integration:
- Partner with product and engineering teams to ensure smooth integration of research into development pipelines.
- Collaborate with external academic institutions, industry partners, and open-source communities.
- Represent Mapsted at conferences, industry events, and in strategic partnerships.
Operational Excellence:
- Manage research budgets, resource allocation, and project prioritization.
- Establish and refine processes to ensure research efforts are efficient, scalable, and impactful.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure research success and alignment with business goals.
Qualifications Required:
- PhD or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Geospatial Technology, or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in leading research teams, with a proven track record of innovation in AI, ML, or location-based technology.
- Deep technical expertise in spatial computing, indoor positioning systems, or geospatial analytics.
- Strong leadership and people management skills, with experience in building and scaling teams.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to bridge the gap between technical research and business stakeholders.
Preferred:
- Experience in patent development and research commercialization.
- A robust network within the AI, ML, or geospatial technology community.
