Role Summary

The Head of Responsible Investing is a key leadership role within Northern Trust Asset Management (NTAM) – a global investment manager overseeing ~$1.3 trillion in AUM* – and will be responsible for leading our $172 billion* global responsible investing platform across EMEA, APAC and North America. The ideal candidate will have an extensive experience as a recognized leader and investor/ researcher in sustainable investing with track record of investment performance and demonstrated commitment and experience working with various ESG-oriented industry groups, regulatory agencies, and academic groups globally. They will have proven leadership experience within a global multibillion financial institution, and deep knowledge across various areas of sustainable investing including portfolio management integration, data and research, product, reporting, client facing, regulations and varying regional investor preferences.
This role will report directly to the president of NTAM and serve on the Global Executive Group in addition to serving on various subsidiary boards and governance committees across the regions. The role is based in London.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and facilitate the execution of a holistic business strategy for our responsible investing platform, targeting expansive growth over the next 3-5 years across global markets.
- Lead team that engages with key internal and external stakeholders, including clients, prospects, industry groups and regulatory bodies, to promote our expertise, ensure transparency and address sustainability concerns in the marketplace.
- Lead team responsible for research, ESG data and the integration of ESG as risk factors within every asset class, and establish and maintain robust governance frameworks, policies and accountability mechanisms to ensure compliance and consistent investment and business practices.
- Drive industry-leading sustainability thought leadership and research that enables innovation across the platform, increases client engagement and positions NTAM as a thought leader in the marketplace.
- Oversee regulatory affairs and development of local capabilities tailored to the regional clientele, as it relates to our sustainable investing platform. Expand regional solutions that leverage multiple offerings across Northern Trust that increases our relevance with local investment management clients.
- Serve as a key leader in each region – helping to develop and execute strategies to attract, develop and grow internal talent across the business.
Necessary Knowledge and Skills:

- Proven ability to build, develop and motivate high-performing teams
- Existing industry profile and relationships that can accelerate business growth and bring new perspectives and best practices to the organization
- Ability to think strategically, execute with precision and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
Necessary Experience and Education:
- Extensive investment management experience, including as a portfolio manager, or leader of portfolio managers, or research practitioner with direct experience integrating ESG risk factors into portfolios
- Experience with roles covering investments, distribution, product with evidence of increasing leadership responsibility.
- Experience working with global markets in EMEA and APAC
- Recognized leader integrating sustainability to increase investment performance
- A bachelor’s degree with an MBA or CFA highly desired.
