Department or Work and Pensions (DWP) is passionate about inclusivity across their workforce.
We’re looking for someone to head up our accessibility agenda, with a focus on accessibility compliant systems and tooling across DWP Digital.
DWP Digital is the digital part of the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). We build and maintain digital services that enable millions of people to access the help, advice and financial support they need, which includes our own staff.
You’ll be part of a supportive team where you will work to enable teams to design and build accessible products. The role may not be easy at times, but you’ll be well supported, and you’ll get a minimum of 5 days learning and development annually.

JOB DESCRIPTION
This role is crucial in leading on making our systems and tooling accessible, so everyone has the right access to do their job.
We believe in a diverse workforce and this role will be at the heart of that.
As Head of Role for Accessibility, you will lead the Accessibility profession across DWP Digital.
You will be an expert with broad industry experience who can define and assure best practice while influencing, leading, building capability and mentoring others. Working with other Head of Roles to deliver a “joined-up” service to Digital functions, providing best practice guidance on ways of working.
You will need knowledge in the development of communities of practice, as well as being able to role model across the Practice.
The Head of Role is a key part of the Practice Model and has key accountabilities in the following areas:-
- Community of Practice
- Capability Building
- Knowledge Management
- Learning and Performance Management
- Resourcing
- Business Partnering
As Head of Role, you will be responsible for building a community of professionals; empowering the community to define standards and enable effective professional performance of practice members. You will lead on building a network and develop a Community of Practice identity within DWP and across Government to empower people in their ability to develop, and share transferrable skills, knowledge and experience.
The Head of Role is responsible for:
KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT
- Mentor, coach and share expert knowledge, to support your own blended learning and capability within your job family
- Promote the value of sharing and adopting industry leading tools, technologies and processes
- Be recognised as the authority for validation and application of the job role tools, processes and methodologies
RESOURCING
- Own, instruct and confirm the specific Job Descriptions contained within the Job Role Catalogue role description that addresses vacancy holder need, supporting the production of the Job advert
- Ensure that the relevance of the role to both DWP and within the industry is understood and maintained within the published Job Descriptions
