Description:

DZNE is a world-leading, internationally oriented center for cutting-edge research into diseases of the nervous system.
At 10 locations in Germany, around 1,200 employees are working together on new approaches to better understand and effectively combat diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and ALS.
That is our goal - maybe soon yours too? Become part of the DZNE and support us in realizing our research strategy!

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS

  • Doctoral degree in medicine or biomedical research; international post-graduate training preferred
  • Ambition to learn continuously about emerging scientific themes and apply insights to promote DZNE research excellence
  • Substantial experience in project management and coordination of project teams
  • Strong writing and verbal communication skills; fluency in English and German
  • Good familiarity with the German research landscape
  • Demonstrated ability to address complex situations and organizational processes with efficiency and a team-oriented approach

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain an overview of the DZNE scientific portfolio and emerging themes in neurodegenerative disease research
  • Promote and support scientific collaborations, within DZNE, among the Helmholtz Centers, with the German Centers for Health Research (DZGs) and with national/international partners, e.g. through networking/alliance activities and symposia; includes management of key strategic cooperations
  • Development and implementation of internally funded scientific initiatives
  • Support/coordinate scientific evaluations, e.g. within the Helmholtz Program-Oriented Funding scheme (POF), DZNE tenure track/career development programs, scientific infrastructure, specific prizes
  • Support key researcher recruitments, e.g. through special funding initiatives or via joint appointments with universities
  • Manage scientific benchmarking and reporting, including formal annual reporting to the BMBF and Helmholtz Association, ad hoc reporting to BMBF and politicians, and preparation of documentation for leadership reports
  • Coordinate DZNE’s good scientific practice promotion activities, including the Office of Scientific Integrity, co-management of the LabFolder electronic laboratory notebook software platform (with IT), and assessment of potential conflicts of interest (e.g. for secondary employment applications and as required by certain funders and review organizations)
  • Provide recommendations to the DZNE Executive Board, aiming for continuous improvement at the Center
  • Coordinate or participate in teams for ad hoc projects at the request of the Executive Board
  • Supervise SSO personnel (recruitment, development, performance evaluation, task assignments, etc
  • Manage the SSO budget
The SSO Head reports directly to the DZNE Scientific Director. The SSO works closely with the Technology Transfer Office, and provides support as needed for internally- and externally-funded innovation activities managed by TTO. In general the SSO acts in an interface role between science and administration, and therefore has regular interactions with both communities, including regular contact with certain administrative departments, e.g. Legal, Strategic Controlling and Human Resources.
The position offers a highly interesting and challenging experience at an important phase of DZNE development. Salary is assigned according to the Tarifvertrag für den Öffentlichen Dienst (TVöD). The position is initially limited to 2 years; with possibility of an unlimited contract.
