Description:

Musgrave is one of the Europe’s most successful family-owned businesses with a 140-year heritage in food and brand innovation, supporting communities across the island of Ireland and Spain.
Every day we feed one in three people in Ireland through 15 market leading food and beverage brands that include SuperValu, Centra, Frank and Honest and Musgrave Market Place.
We support thousands of retail and foodservice family businesses who live and work in the heart of the communities they serve.
We are committed to becoming the most trusted and sustainable business in Ireland and we are making changes across the company to make sure that happens. We want to make a positive impact on the world, and we will support our suppliers and customers to make a difference too.
Our people are the heart of our business. As our greatest asset, they make Musgrave a great place to work and in return we aim to be the very best place to work, grow and thrive. We have an opportunity for a Head of Sustainability to join our Musgrave Wholesale Partners (MWP) division and work at the heart of the wholesale business. MWP includes operations in ROI, NI and GB.
This role is responsible for leading the implementation of the Musgrave Growing Sustainably Every Day strategy in the wholesale business. This involves working closely with the Central Sustainability and Wholesale Management Teams to develop detailed plans, roadmaps and reporting across the three pillars of the strategy i.e. Caring for the Planet, Creating Vibrant Communities and Sourcing for Good. The role will also involve embedding these implementation plans into overall brand strategies and working closely with the brand and sales teams to gain cut through with the customer.
The ambition of this strategy is to be the most trusted and sustainable wholesaler in Ireland prioritising areas where we will have the most impact across our value chain, communicating tangible progress on our efforts and providing customers with solutions that allow them to operate more sustainably. This role will be responsible for wholesale implementation plans to achieve our Scope 3 targets and outcomes.
This role, while based in the wholesale business, will take direction from and work closely with the Central Sustainability team and key cross functional stakeholders to deliver brilliant end to end customer experiences, enabled by a culture of innovation, underpinned by strong commercial outcomes.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and report on implementation of scope 1 & 2 divisional plan and advance the implementation plan for wholesale sites and operations
  • Advance the scope 3 value chain plans and commercial pathways (category and product mix) and develop implementation plans to deliver targeted outcomes – range, price, promotion, investment, supplier actions and customer requirements
  • Identify opportunities for packaging improvement and reduction (priority plastic) and develop and oversee implementation plans with the wholesale team
  • Develop and implement the value chain food waste, biodiversity and ethical trade implementation plans
  • Coordinate across key teams to ensure the overall delivery of the value chain approach to the sustainability strategy, implementing initiatives where we can achieve the most impact for our business and in line with our overall objectives
  • Establish investment criteria and decision making process for the wholesale business to leverage the sustainability strategy as a differentiator for our brands
  • Work closely with the MWP sales and brand teams to reflect the strategy in communications and brand plans and maximise cut through with the customer
  • Track and report on progress/activities across the programme and initiatives to ensure all stakeholders (Wholesale Management Team, Executive Team and key stakeholders) are regularly updated.
