QUALIFICATIONS

  • University degree and professional accounting designation.
  • Minimum 8 years of progressive and relevant experience in finance roles, including 2-3 years of managerial experience.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian tax rules.
  • Demonstrates a solutions-oriented approach, challenges status quo and strives to improve processes
  • Ability to set priorities and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong interpersonal and people management skills.
  • Experience in a law firm, bank or partnership would be a strong asset.
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is considered an asset.

    The starting range for this role is $130,000 to $150,000. Starting salary will be determined based on an applicant’s individual skills, competencies and unique qualifications. Gowling WLG employees have the potential to exceed this range based on tenure and performance.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement best practices for the Firm’s treasury operations to enhance effectiveness and ensure strong controls to protect the Firm’s and client funds ensuring compliance with ASPE, law society and related tax rules and regulations.
  • Oversight of daily cashflow monitoring and manage use of credit facilities to ensure sufficient funds for quarterly partner distributions.
  • Oversight of sales, corporate, bare trust and partner tax compliance ensuring that processes developed are best practices, efficient and ensure adherence to federal and provincial regulatory requirements.
  • Manage relationships with banks, external tax advisors, auditors and tax authorities.
  • Oversee the negotiation of terms and fees for banking services, including loans, credit facilities and merchant services.
  • Forecast cash requirements and develop strategies to minimize use of Firm’s operating lines.
  • Identify and mitigate financial risks related to currency and interest rates.
  • Develop and implement tax planning strategies to ensure partnership tax position is fairly allocated to current and future partners.
  • Stay updated on changes to tax laws and regulations.
  • Assist reporting group with yearend provisions, audit and tax related reporting.
  • Work with the Director to supervise and mentor tax and treasury staff, providing guidance on complex tax and treasury issues, fostering a collaborative results driven group.
  • Participate in other projects or initiatives, as required
