Description:
Job Purpose
The Health Access Specialist is Pfizer’s primary representative to the payer organizations they are assigned to cover. Health Access Specialists’ primary responsibility is to ensure optimal patient access to Pfizer’s approved vaccines by securing optimal coverage and formulary placement by the assigned payers. They are expected to achieve this by:
- Establishing relationships with key stakeholders and decision makers (Payer´s/HCP´s) at different levels to understand payers’ unmet needs.
- Creating a customized value proposition for priority health technologies, based on a deep understanding of payer needs to secure access for new product launches, formulary inclusions, healthcare enhancement programs (e.g. disease awareness and education), and/or value based agreements, closely aligned with PHI team
- Demonstrate access conditions effectively and constructively of prioritized health technologies within the frameworks permitted by the payer, aligning closely with relevant members of PHI and Commercial teams.
Key Accountabilities:
The Health Access Specialist will be accountable for:
- Maintaining regular contact with assigned payers and working to build deep partnership relationships with strategically prioritized payers.
- Coordinating and leading access value communications, formulary inclusion processes, identification of barriers, etc. to ensure optimal access for Pfizer Vaccines with assigned payers, engaging Access Strategist, Value & Evidence Strategists, Pricing, Medical, Commercial, and other colleagues as needed and appropriate to support the process.
- Ensure that all activities are based in scientific / HEOR Access purposes, clearly separating from the commercial / negotiations / contracting roles.
- Tailoring value proposition of Pfizer Vaccines to the payer’s priorities and patient population, including development of targeted presentation materials, adaptation of simple health economic models (e.g. budget impact models) and tools, working with Access Strategists and Value & Evidence Strategists as needed and appropriate.
- Supporting the development and coordination of access strategies for prioritized Pfizer health technologies and portfolio in alignment with nationwide level access strategy.
- Designing innovative access approaches and agreements, in partnership with the payer, and with Access Innovation & Excellence Lead, Access Strategists and other colleagues as appropriate
- Executing and following up on access agreements with the payer
- Representing the voice of the payer within Pfizer, and promptly communicating challenges and opportunities relevant to Pfizer’s portfolio to the relevant colleagues within Pfizer
- Coordinating any involvement of payer representatives in Pfizer advisory boards or other consultation processes for approved products
- Delivering value-based messages of Pfizer Vaccines and enhance access through exploring patient assistance programs, among others
Health Access Specialists are not accountable for (and should not get involved in):
- Engaging physicians or directly influencing clinical decision making
- Processing orders of Pfizer vaccines, or managing or monitoring distribution of vaccines
- Administering or monitoring payments for Pfizer vaccines
- Initiating or administering direct patient programs such as PSPs, PAPs or affordability programs
- Any activities pertaining to unapproved (pipeline) assets or indications
Job Specific Technical/Functional/Professional Competencies:
The Health Access Specialist will be expected to demonstrate:
- Strong commitment to patient focus and access to innovative health technologies
- Strong understanding of the healthcare system, payer processes and payers’ priorities and interests
- Robust knowledge of the fundamentals of market access, including access strategy, pricing approaches, and fundamental concepts of health economics such as relative efficacy assessment, cost-effectiveness, budget impact analysis
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate compelling value stories using data
- Strong relationship-building skills
- Strong project management skills
Demonstrated commitment to execution with integrity and Pfizer’s values
Knowledge/Requirements:
A Bachelor’s degree or above in a relevant discipline such as Health Economics, Public Health, Pharmacology, Engineering etc. OR
- A 3 to 5 years’ experience in an analysis of access/health system information, development of access materials, and customer-facing access role within the pharmaceutical industry, or an access-related role within a healthcare organization (e.g. payer, HTA agency or hospital)
- Professional qualifications in relevant disciplines such as pharmaceutical market access, health economics, epidemiology, finance will be an advantage.
- Excellent skills in key office programs such as Powerpoint and Excel.
