Purpose:
The Health & Safety Advisor will be responsible for providing support to the field-operating group to produce oil and gas in a safe manner by incorporating Health & Safety business stewardship. The candidate should reside in Weyburn area due to the location of the role and frequent traveling required.

Main Responsibilities & Activities:

  • Ensure routine compliance and the execution of Health and Safety (HS) activities in the field including inspections, regulatory compliance programs, scheduling and documenting applicable training results, etc.
  • Represent field areas in HS for opportunities and issues including safety, training, ERP, etc.
  • Assist with coordinating emergency response plans including planned maintenance training and drills.
  • Assist with incident investigation, tracking and communicating follow up corrective actions.
  • Audit permit programs (Hot Work, Confined Space Entry, Lock Out, Tag Out etc.)
  • Assist with field area site orientation programs and compile presentation material to educate workers.
  • Coordinate Industrial Hygiene activities and reporting.
  • Facilitate the adoption and sustainment/utilization of Veren’s HS policies, procedures, and code of practices.
  • Facilitate the distribution/filing of Veren HS information.
  • Provide assistance in coordinating external and internal assessments (e.g. logistics, schedules, etc.)
  • Suggest improvements to HS processes, tools and protocols as applicable.
  • Conduct spot compliance checks on Veren standards and practices during site inspections.
  • Monitor Health and Safety performance monthly and provide summary reports.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Post-secondary education is recommended.
  • HS experience is recommended or at a minimum 3 to 5 years of oil and gas operations experience could be an asset.
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or Certified Safety Officer (CSO or NCSO) designation is recommended.
  • Knowledge and experience regarding legislation and governing bodies would be an asset.
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office applications including: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. would be an asset
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills
  • Strong business/client focus and bringing client needs and projects to closure timely and accurately.
  • Flexible to travel to various field sites.
  • Team player who enjoys learning and contributing to team goals
