JOB SUMMARY

The Health and Safety and Accessibility Coordinator is responsible for the development, implementation, monitoring, and adherence of the Company’s health and safety program, policies and procedures as required under the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Workplace Safety Insurance Act and the Accessibility program, policies and procedures as required under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA), The Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation (IASR), the Ontario Human Rights Code (OHRC) and other provincial and federal legislation impacting persons with disabilities through deliberations with HR, management, and departmental leaders.
Flexibility may be required to complete training days or based on seasonal needs. Notice will be given in advance.
In this role, the successful candidate will report directly to the Human Resources Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A bachelor’s degree or diploma in occupational health and safety, disability, human resources, or a related field is an asset.
  • CRSP, CHSC or similar health and safety professional designation is an asset.
  • Part 1 and 2 Joint Health and Safety Committee Member Certification is an asset.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR training is an asset.
  • Valid Ontario G driver’s license is required.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of progressive experience within a safety role in an agriculture, manufacturing or similar environment is required.

ABILITIES:

  • Ability to walk the premises, including the plant floor and office, and travel to nearby farm locations.
  • Willingness to travel periodically to Gwillimdale North operations (New Liskeard, Ontario).
  • Capable of performing a combination of sitting, standing, walking, bending, stair climbing, and lifting.
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment (e.g., steel-toed footwear) in plant and farm areas.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Able to make decisive decisions, work well under pressure, and collaborate as a team player.
  • Self-motivated with a proven ability to take initiative.
  • Skilled in dealing with individuals with sensitivity, tact, and professionalism.
  • Knowledgeable in the Occupational Health & Safety Act, Human Rights, Accessibility, and Workplace Safety and Insurance Act.
  • Comfortable attending and conducting presentations and training sessions.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English; Spanish proficiency is an asset.

Responsibilities:

HR SUPPORT DUTIES:

  • Provide administrative support to ensure the HR department runs efficiently.
  • Act as HR Manager’s backup, leading HR functions and initiatives in their absence.
  • Complete HR projects and tasks as assigned, ensuring alignment with department goals.
  • Assist with recruitment, onboarding, and employee relations activities.
  • Maintain HR documentation and ensure legal compliance.
