Description:

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • Experience of working with people with mental health needs (both 1-1 and in groups) in a coaching and goal setting way.
  • Experience of developing and co-ordinating projects and activities.
  • Excellent group facilitation skills, active listening and building rapport.
  • Completed training or qualification relevant to the post, e.g. Train the trainer, recovery training, Peer Support Worker or Coaching.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of mental health and ability to recognise the indicators of deteriorating mental health.
  • Experience of working in a recovery focused manner and delivering recovery education.
  • Ability to support, coach and encourage people to influence, speak out and lead within their own communities including those from marginalised communities.
  • Ability to work proactively and collaboratively with colleagues, partners and other stakeholders to achieve outcomes.
  • Ability to work independently and collectively.
  • Able to prioritise workload demands and positively respond to unforeseen challenges.
  • Experience in dealing with stressful and difficult situations in a calm manner.
  • A confident communication style with excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Working knowledge of standard IT packages including Microsoft Word, Excel, and use of database / information systems.
    The role will be 37.5 hours per week.

Responsibilities:

Rethink Mental Illness work alongside Tees, Esk and Wear Valley NHS Foundation Trust to deliver an integrated stepped care mental health service based within HMP Durham and we are currently Recruiting for a Health & Wellbeing Coach to join the team.
As a Health & Wellbeing Coach, you will work as part of an integrated care mental health team delivering IAPT Step 1 interventions, working alongside other professionals to support the mental health of the prison population. In addition you would be supporting people with a common mental health problem in the self-management of their recovery, building a professional relationship of trust in a non-judgmental manner with every client, as a basis for developing and enabling therapeutic relationships. This ranges from providing informal information, support, and signposting during reception; facilitating group activities and forums; to developing and training Peer Mentors and delivering service user engagement activities.
Working alongside the other staff in the mental health team, you will deliver high quality, mental health support during an individual’s time in prison and in onward planning for their release into the community.
