Job Description
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Health & Wellness Director at the Greater Waterbury YMCA oversees the development and operations of Health & Wellness programs, and designs practices, processes, and procedures for strong program and project management. Programs include but not limited to; Personal Training, Wellness Center operations, Group Fitness, and the Livestrong program.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience.
- YMCA Team Leader certification preferred.
- One to two years related experience preferred.
- Minimum age of 21.
- National certification in group fitness instruction (e.g., ACE, NETA, AFAA, NASM) or YMCA group exercise instructor certification required. Certification in area of expertise required.
- Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
- Commitment to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
Essential Functions
- Ensures all Health and Wellness programs and services meet community needs to include supervising existing program activities, establishing new program activities, and expanding the program within the community as needed. Ensure all instructors maintain current CPR/First Aid certifications as well as Group Exercise and Personal Training Certificates.
- Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support.
- Recruits, hires and trains diverse staff and volunteer teams across multiple dimensions of diversity. Onboards and develops them for success.
- Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within the Health & Wellness Department.
- Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
- Manages the Health & Wellness Department, including developing and monitoring the Department and program budgets to meet fiscal objectives; compiling program statistics to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of and participation in programs; securing and scheduling the needed facilities; and creating and scheduling the classes, activities or events.
- Schedules and supervises floor and Group Fitness staff and works Wellness Center floor as needed.
- Leads 1-3 Group Exercise classes.
