Description:

This is an exciting opportunity to work in the Macmillan Brook Outpatient Unit at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
The Macmillan Brook Outpatient unit caters for a wide range patients in for cancer services to include Upper GI, Colorectal, Urology, Prostate, Lung, breast, and Haematology .
The post Holder will work under the direct supervision of the unit manager undertaking duties in relation to direct fundamental patient care and a full range of support functions that may include clerical duties.
The post holder will deliver delegated, supervised work as assigned by the unit manager as appropriate, ensuring that there is continual feedback to the unit manger about the tasks undertaken.
The post holder will contribute to the delivery of quality patient care to meet the physical, psychological and social needs of patients maintaining privacy and dignity at all times.

To ensure all clinic rooms are tidy
Print out clinic lists for the day
Update the white board every morning
Print out labels for all new patients and attach to clinic notes; print referrals for all new and 2 week wait
Height and weigh all patients and document on Icare
Obtain vital signs and record on icare
Liaise with the Haematology CNS nurse for the blood transfusion plan for weekend transfusions
Adhoc tasks to include - Urinalysis and MSU samples, ECG, specimens to the lab
Provide chaperone duties for clinicians
Support patients with toileting needs
Work as part of the multi-disciplinary team in giving an excellent standard of care to a variety of different client groups.
To support the promotion of health and prevent ill-health in staff, patients and their relatives
Attend mandatory study sessions and training associated with the maintenance of the skills and knowledge required to fulfill the role.
Participate in the staff appraisal process
Acts as a role model to other Health Care Assistants
To demonstrate a commitment to personal and professional development through performance review, clinical supervision and continuing education.
To complete mandatory training, as determined by the Trust.
To personally adhere to all Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust Policies and Procedures.
To be able to use unit level IT packages.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Healthcare Assistant (HCA) / Healthcare Support Worker is an important part of the multidisciplinary team delivering direct care to patients under the support and supervision of a Registered Nurse.

The Healthcare Assistants / Healthcare Support Workers carry out a range of personal care activities and tasks in support of and supervised by a Registered Nurse/Midwife. To achieve this, they will:

  • Competently perform the necessary aspects of care for patients
  • Ensure effective delivery of personal care in line with patient activities of daily living is provided to patients and that an acceptable standard is maintained.
  • Follow all Trust policies and provide a safe and person-centred environment for the treatment of patients.
  • Participate in personal and practice development activities to maintain standards of care

Responsibilities:
