Description:

HMP Woodhill is a category A/B prison comprising of five residential wings (including a stabilisation unit), a segregation unit, clinical assessment unit, the close supervision centre and reception area. Each area has a group of dedicated healthcare staff committed to improving services and delivery of healthcare to prisoners with a range of complex health problems and diverse ethnic backgrounds.
The Addictions Team helps people in HMP Woodhill who want to break a cycle of addiction to substances such as heroin, club drugs, other types of stimulants or long-term alcohol addiction. It represents the bringing together of a variety of services under one roof to provide a better service to service users. We offer a variety of psychosocial and clinical interventions to support clients throughout their journey in custody, starting from their arrival into prison and through to their release.
An exciting opportunity has presented itself within our service! This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of an integrated substance misuse service combining the elements of education, prevention, treatment and recovery within a prison environment. We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated Band 3 Healthcare Assistant to complement our Addictions Team supporting the delivery of clinical and psychosocial interventions.
The post holder should be ready for a new challenge and have experience working collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team. You should be able to demonstrate good communication skills and ability to use IT systems .

Work as part of the multidisciplinary team participating in procedures and duties in accordance with agreed standards relevant to role
Participate in the assessment process of care needs and implementation of programmes of holistic care within set standards
Ensure privacy and dignity is maintained
Support the promotion of health and wellbeing of clients
Undertake clinical interventions as delegated by a registered nurse or senior team member
Maintain close liaison with the senior team member, who is responsible for the workload
Maintain clear and comprehensive, signed and contemporaneous records both written and electronic in accordance with NMC Guidance for record keeping and CNWL Policy
Assist with clerical and administrative duties as required
Work in co-operation and partnership with all other professionals and agencies involved in care of the patient
Aware of and act upon, where necessary, the procedures in place to protect vulnerable individuals
Take responsibility within own competencies for supporting all aspects of infection prevention and control
Undertake such duties as may be reasonably required from time to time, as are consistent with the responsibility and scale of the post
Work collaboratively with the team to meet the needs of patients with specified long term conditions by providing quality evidence based care
Assist with stock control and equipment checking (All clinical areas and emergency bags)

Responsibilities:

Wound care
Vital observations and diagnostics
Assist with medication administration as ‘second signatory’
Immunisations
ECG recording
Venepuncture
Blood pressure monitoring
Assist with minor surgery
Near patient testing
Health promotion advice
Secondary health screening
Assisting with sexual health prevention, screening and treatment clinics
Providing additional support for patients with specific needs, eg the disabled and the elderly
Assist with the activities of daily living and development of care plans for prisoners with
Respond to medical emergencies and general alarm
