The Department of Health implements the Government of Alberta’s vision and strategic direction for health. It is responsible for the overall design, strategic policy direction, legislation and monitoring of the health system’s quality and performance. In this role the department ensures the health system is delivering quality in terms of health outcomes, including patient experience and value for public investment.
The Continuing Care Division provides leadership in monitoring, assessing, and improving Alberta’s continuing care sector, which includes continuing care homes (Type A, Type B, and Type C), supportive living accommodations, and home and community care. The division oversees legislation, regulations, and policies while administering the licensing and compliance monitoring programs to ensure services meet provincial standards and legislative requirements.
The Licensing and Compliance Monitoring Branch is responsible for licensing continuing care accommodations, inspecting care services, and investigating complaints and incidents. The branch’s unannounced, risk-based inspections are designed to enforce compliance and ensure Albertans receive safe, client-centred care.
Responsibilities:
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Are you passionate about ensuring high-quality care for Albertans in continuing care settings? As a Health Compliance Officer (HCO), you will play a critical role in monitoring and enforcing compliance with the Continuing Care Act, its regulations, and associated standards. In this position, you will conduct thorough on-site inspections, audits, and investigations to ensure that home and community care providers and continuing care homes comply with provincial standards, ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of clients.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Conducting risk-based audits and on-site inspections to assess compliance with the CCHSS and/or Accommodation Standards in publicly funded continuing care settings.
- Investigating complaints and incidents reported by clients, families, and service providers, reviewing non-compliance issues related to CCHSS and Accommodation standards, and ensuring appropriate corrective actions are taken.
- Ensuring compliance with “Duty to Notify” reporting requirements, reviewing incidents such as serious harm, damage, or activation of contingency plans.
- Provide clinical and professional expertise on IPC and continuing care standards, supporting compliance monitoring, quality assurance, and risk management practices to ensure the safety and care of residents in publicly funded continuing care programs.
- Preparing detailed reports with evidence-based recommendations for corrective actions following inspections, audits, and investigations.
- Providing guidance and technical expertise on regulatory requirements to service providers and compliance teams, helping them meet their legal obligations and improve care delivery.
You will be working within the Home and Community Care Inspection Program (HCCIP) or Continuing Care Home Inspection Program (CCHIP), and this recruitment pool will be used for several vacant positions across both units.
