Description:
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The HIM Coder contributes to healthcare delivery as a member of the healthcare team by interacting with medical staff, health providers and management. This position is responsible for performing coding and abstracting duties to provide accurate and timely data on Inpatient, Day Surgery and Emergency cases for reporting to the Canadian Institute for Health Information, Ministry of Health and internal hospital departments. Responsibilities also include Release of Information, Q.A., and other duties as assigned.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
- Certified as an HIM with the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA).
- Recent ICD-10-CA coding work experience in an acute care setting, including Emergency coding.
- Three (3) years coding experience preferred.
- Recent work experience with 3M HDM and Codefinder would be an asset.
- Experience with Cerner or other electronic patient record systems an asset.
- Proven ability to work with minimum supervision utilizing effective organization skills in a changing environment.
- Qualitative Analysis (QA) experience an asset
- Release of information (ROI) experience an asset
- Demonstrated previous performance reflective of the Mission, Vision, Values and Code of Conduct of STEGH.
- Demonstrated acceptable attendance record in accordance with STEGH’s Attendance at Work Program
Successful candidates must provide evidence of having received a full primary series of a COVID-19 vaccine or combination of vaccines authorized by Health Canada and having received the final dose 14 days before entering STEGH.
