Responsibilities:

  • Preparing, reviewing and/or revising radiation protection procedures and RP training material.
  • Preparing or participating in RP program compliance reviews and assessments.
  • Providing Health Physicist technical support in support of RP Program development and establishment of requirements.
  • Assisting in developing, implementing and maintaining radiation protection performance models and metrics.
  • Completing Apparent Cause Analysis, Effectiveness reviews, and fact-finding reports as required.
  • Making recommendations on performance improvements as required.
  • Monitoring RP-related non-conformances and corrective actions.
  • Performing RP compliance inspections at various sites/facilities as assigned.
  • Attending meetings, e.g. weekly operation HP alignment meetings, program meetings, and radiation safety committee meetings.
  • Reviewing and approving radiation source registration and records, radiation source leak testing, and food and beverage rooms.
  • Reviewing the selection and procurement of radiation and contamination measuring and monitoring equipment.
  • Providing recommendations on scoping, characterization and release of radiological surveys consistent with the RP Program.
  • Completing shielding calculations.
  • Overseeing the design or modification of facilities to ensure doses to workers are as low as reasonably achievable.
  • Providing training and presentations on RP topics.
  • Successfully obtaining and maintaining RP Group 1 qualification training within 2 years.
  • Developing and implementing RP controls, processes and procedures.
  • Completing radiological safety and dose assessments.
  • Performing ALARA and post-work ALARA assessments and reviews.
  • Reviewing design documents.
  • Reviewing and approving requests to release material and personnel involved in contamination events out of the Controlled Area.
  • Approving transfer of packages exceeding default limits during off-shifts.
  • Documenting justification and ALARA reviews for exceptions to RP Program requirements for review and approval by the RP Program Manager.
  • Completing reviews for pregnancy declaration and medical needs.
  • Preparing, reviewing and/or approving radiological work plans/procedures, radioisotope laboratory protocol, employee dose control points, and indoor radioactive material storage areas.
  • Responding to, investigating, and performing follow-up of RP-related unplanned events.
  • Providing consultative advice to project and facility management and the RP Program.
  • Interacting with other compliance program staff to ensure HP recommendations consider the impact and implications on other compliance programs.
  • Providing input in departmental budgeting related to RP instrumentation or performance improvement initiatives.
  • Coaching and mentoring junior HPs as subject matter experts in radiation protection.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.
