Description:
This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by performing a variety of duties related to disease intervention coordination, response, training and mentorship, and technical assistance in support of CDPH’s Center for Infectious Disease (CID)programs and California Local Health Departments (LHDs).
The Health Program Specialist I (HPS I) works under the general direction of the Disease Intervention (DI) Mentorship, Training, & Response Unit (DI Unit) Chief. The incumbent supports statewide workforce training, development, and capacity building for the DI Unit; acts as a skilled technical program consultant, coordinating the unit’s involvement in the development and implementation of projects that support the California Pathways into Public Health Initiatives, CalCONNECT Technical Assistance and Support Coordination (TASC) team, and other programs that Office of Infectious Disease Preparedness and Response (OIDPR) supports as assigned.
In the case of a public health emergency, the HPS I may be asked to redirect to serve rotations in emergency staffing roles aligned with their classification level; for disease outbreaks, the HPS I leads front-line, in-person support, and assists in coordination with the CID emergency response lead, the CDPH Medical & Health Coordination Center (MHCC), and LHDs. The HPS I coordinates with the DI Mentorship & Training Manager, MHCC, infectious disease subject matter experts (SMEs), and disease intervention training experts, as applicable, to lead Just-in-Time training to ensure staff supporting the effort are well trained and readied for deployment. The HPS I will participate in the assessment and monitoring of the team’s response efforts to identify and advocate for any additional training or resources needed to meet the emergency assignment effectively.
