About the role
Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a Health & Safety Advisor to join our Regional Construction Services team working in Argyll, Scotland. This role will be working alongside our Power T&D team, ensuring the project is delivered safely.
Due to the location of the project, the successful candidate may be required to work away from home. Accommodation and expenses will be covered.
What you’ll be doing
On a day to day basis you will be responsible for:
Providing guidance, support, advice and compliance monitoring on Health and Safety (H&S) to ensure compliance with the Balfour Beatty HSES integrated Business Management System (BMS), Legislation, BSI requirements and Client standards.
To provide on-site engagement, coaching and support on H&S and promote safe behaviours on site.
As a health and safety advisor you will have the following accountabilities
- Contribute to the implementation of the Zero Harm & Sustainability Action Plan
- Undertake planned & unplanned inspections, audits, joint tours and reviews of projects
- Produce formal reports on findings and communicate these to the project.
- Contribute to local and national H&S projects (e.g. MSP, Supervisor Development)
- Be involved at the planning stage to support design teams to identify and control risk.
- Engage with site teams to identify safer ways of working using the heierarchy of control
- Deliver on-going approved H&S Awareness Training to meet project and business needs
- Actively provide support and guidance to the supply chain & subcontractors.
- Assist in the development of H&S case studies and best practice.
- Relentlessly pursue every opportunity to challenge the norm
- Assist in the compilation of risk assessments and written safe systems of work
- Support the delivery of briefings & toolbox talks
- Ensure the project is compliant with all H&S Regulations, Company Policies and the BMS
- Provide H&S advice and support at an operational level
- Ensure lessons learned are effectively communicated across the Project /Business area.
- Support H&S work winning activities across the business
- Regular communication and promoting engagement with stakeholders
- Support and maintain a constant focus on the behavioural safety programme
- Support their Project /Business area during near miss/incident/accident investigations
- Support the H&S upskilling and development of the business operational teams
- Promote H&S initiatives and innovations across their Project /Business area
Support the local & external audit programme across their Project /Business area
Who we’re looking for
The following personal qualities and experience are required:
- Membership of a relevant professional body (IOSH/IEMA) or working towards
- Previous experience and good knowledge of civil engineering projects.
- Educated to NEBOSH National Level Certificate or equivalent
- Good communicator with influencing and persuasion skills
- Approachable
- Good interpersonal skills and team player
- Displaying and demonstrating the Balfour Beatty behaviours at all times
- Incident/Accident investigator/fact finder
- Accurate record keeping
