Description:

Are you passionate about creating safe and thriving workplaces? Napier City Council is seeking a talented Health & Safety Advisor to champion Health, Safety, and Wellbeing across our organisation.
In this pivotal role, you’ll foster strong, collaborative relationships with teams across the council and our external partners, driving results and ensuring that health and safety are deeply embedded in our culture. You will work closely with our leaders to integrate safety into every aspect of our operations, providing expert guidance to maintain compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 and other relevant regulations.

As our Health & Safety Advisor your key responsibilities will include:

  • Ensure NCC complies with the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 and its amendments.
  • Make sure all SOPs and SWMS follow NCC’s specific format, are included in staff training, and are regularly reviewed.
  • Support the Health and Safety Operations Manager with the NCC Safety Audit system and engage key stakeholders.
  • Provide timely health and safety advice and best practices in a collaborative manner.
  • Actively participate in NCC Health and Safety committee meetings, support HS representatives, and ensure they feel valued and empowered.
  • Ensure all staff understand their risks and are involved in hazard and risk processes.
  • Manage the SiteWise HS Pre-Qualification system and build relationships with suppliers to ensure they comply with NCC HS procedures and legislation.
  • Conduct and review risk assessments regularly.
  • Facilitate the use and training of the hazard/risk register, ensuring it’s accessible and actively used by all staff.
  • Address and resolve all hazards and compliance issues.
  • Advise the Health and Safety Operations Manager on necessary training programs for the committee and people leaders.
