Overview – Global Health, Safety and Environment Team
The Global Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Team’s purpose is to contribute to Dyson’s future growth by maintaining a 5 Star experience for our Employees, Shoppers, Owner’s, and Business Partners. This includes the prevention of foreseeable harm, optimal people performance and well-being, reducing our impact on our Environment and the avoidance of significant business disruption or other operational loss.
Overview – Role
You will provide support to the Senior HSE Manager by providing business partner support to the business and by acting as a subject matter expert for relevant areas. The main duties of the role are identified below but there is an overriding expectation that as an HSE professional you will undertake any other role related task as outlined by your manager and the HSE Leadership.
Business partner to a key area of the Business to
Be the first point of contact for a site / department and work in a matrix with other HSE professionals to provide timely responses to meet customer needs at the site.

Consult with Retail Leaders, Department Managers, Area Owners, other HSE team members to ensure a consistent approach to implementation of environmental, HSE expectations and:

  • Support your business area(s) leaders to understand their responsibilities with respect to HSE.
  • Providing practical advice and signposting to guidance / tools to support employees to undertake their activities in line with Dysons’ expectations.
  • Supporting the onboarding and development of relevant champions embedded within the business to fulfil their roles.
  • Working with departments on understanding and integrating HSE to their existing processes.
  • Organise and / or deliver training programmes.
  • Support departmental and site communities to consult with employees on HSE matters in an effective manner.
  • Ensure HSE and compliance related communications reach all staff members.
  • Monitor Incident data and identify opportunities for improvement / focus.
  • Support investigation of significant incidents
  • Lead audits within key areas of responsibility and ensure actions are completed satisfactorily.

Subject Matter Expert

Support compliance and drive world class HSE performance in business Partner area(s) and provide matrix support to the wider Global HSE team to drive consistency across Dyson. This would include:

  • Developing a high level of competence in a specialism(s) to become a recognised expert.
  • Support retail and estates teams to understand the risks associated with the and activities and ensure our HSE Programmes are in place to assure mitigation of risks.
  • Supporting development of Dyson Standards and guidance materials for the specialism(s) to support the business to comply, as a minimum, with any regulatory expectations
  • Developing trainings to ensure that the content and expectation of the standards are understood and can be implemented through the Dyson organisation.
  • Support development of communication strategies and aligning with site priorities to assure both ongoing knowledge and adaptation to any changes to remain compliant.
  • Contribute to Communities of Practice (CoP) with both HSE colleagues and business representatives to provide regular access to expert advice and understanding of expected ways of working.
  • Review incident data to seek opportunity for continual improvement in your topic specialism(s) and provision of associated specialist advice, guidance, and training.
  • Liaise with external regulatory agencies to build positive relationships and trust in Dyson programmes.
  • Liaise with external consultants that provide assurance and ensure that the business is aware of and addressing any identified gaps.
  • Support investigation of any serious incident or regulatory non-compliance in the topic specialism(s)
  • Undertake compliance audits in your specialist areas to ensure the programmes continually improve and provide internal assurance of compliance with the Dyson standards and regulations.
  • Track completion of any actions to address gaps or opportunities for improvement.

Work in partnership with other subject matter experts to develop a consistent, high level of competent HSE and compliance support to Dyson business.

Skills

  • Ability to deliver training in a clear and concise manner with confidence.
  • Good IT skills - proficiency with Microsoft package software, SharePoint and PowerPoint.
  • Willingness to show initiative.

Experience

  • 3 years (min) experience preferably within a research and development or similar environment.
  • Leading programmes to ensure compliance HSE is effectively and efficiently integrated to ways of working.
  • Working collaboratively in a matrix organisation
  • Building strong stakeholder relationships (internally and externally) and partnership with enforcement officers

Qualifications

  • Ideally Educated to degree level in Engineering or HSE (although not essential).
  • Membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health – IOSH or similar is desirable.
  • Membership of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment – PIEMA Desirable
  • Demonstrable continuing professional development (CPD)
  • A recognised Health and Safety qualification - NEBOSH Certificate desirable

  • Whilst ensuring Dyson maintains legal compliance and works towards best practice, the role holder will need to demonstrate flexibility in their approach and maintain a proactive can-do attitude, and work towards the success of the whole Dyson team and not just the functional area.

  • Excellent relationship building skills with the ability to build a network of connections both internally and externally.
  • Ability to work sensitively, discretely, and effectively across Dyson.
