Description:

We are seeking a proactive Health, Safety, and Environmental Business Lead to join our Health, Safety & Environmental Team on a permanent basis. This role offers an excellent opportunity for self-development within a diverse and forward-thinking team.
Based with Torus Group’s in-house construction contractor, HMS, the Health, Safety, and Environmental Business Lead will manage a small team of HS&E professionals. You will be responsible for developing and delivering the Torus Group Health, Safety & Environmental Policy & Strategy, providing leadership to the central health and safety function, and offering specialist environmental guidance to ensure comprehensive support is available to all stakeholders across the Group.
In this role, you will oversee the development, implementation, and continuous review of a quality Health, Safety, and Environmental Management System in line with legislation, best practices, and audit requirements. You will ensure the Group remains informed of current and future legislative requirements, maintaining legal compliance in all health, safety, and environmental matters. Additionally, you will manage and resource the central support team to adapt to the organisation’s evolving needs as it grows.

The Health, Safety, and Environmental Business Lead will establish strong relationships with the Senior Management Team and the Group’s operational functions, overseeing the development and delivery of operational health and safety plans through business partnering and technical support provision.

  • Have a full understanding of Health & Safety legislation and be able to drive forwards a culture that reflects legislative compliance and best practice.
  • Lead a team of dedicated HS&E professionals.
  • Work with contactors, senior management and external stakeholders e.g. HSE, EHO Fire Authority FSI’s.
  • Have a full understanding of the current CDM Regulations. and the ability to produce the relevant documentation for varied construction projects including new build and major refurbishments.
  • Complete reports, accident investigations, and attend meetings involving of all levels of staff up to senior management and stakeholder.
  • Manage Key Performance Indicators
  • Hold a professional health and safety qualification equivalent of NEBOSH diploma level
  • Hold a NEBOSH Construction Certificate
  • Have a relevant CSCS Card
  • Have excellent construction experience.
  • Be a chartered member of IOSH (or working towards).
  • Hold or working towards an environmental management qualifications (e.g. NEBOSH Environmental certificate, or equivalent)
  • Be highly organised with the ability to manage your time effectively.
  • Be a team worker with excellent collaboration skills.
  • Hold a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for work.
