Our location on Auckland’s doorstep means the delivery of goods is quick, the cost of goods is low, and we are focusing on reducing our carbon footprint to become a sustainable Port. We also have a network of freight hubs throughout the North Island, to improve access to the port for the provinces.

We are growing at Port of Auckland and due to additional work, we are looking to add an additional Fixed-term HSW Advisor to join our team, ensuring the utmost safety and wellness of our frontline workers and operations.

Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE | TE TŪRANGA MAHI

Reporting to the Senior Health Safety and Wellbeing Business Partner the key responsibilities for the role include but are not limited to:

  • Approximately 70% of your time will involve monitoring workplace conditions and frontline workers’ health directly within the operational environment.
  • Lead and/or contribute to HSW work programmes as per the HSW strategic grid and rollout/deliver within agreed set timeframes.
  • Provide advice, support and assistance to resolve HSW-related issues, problems and events identified by stakeholders within agreed timeframes.
  • Lead the delivery of health safety and wellbeing initiatives within defined areas of the business.
  • Support and assist managers with incident investigation, hazard management, safe working practices and the management of corrective actions.
  • Coordinate and deliver regular monitoring and verification activities of all areas of the Port to assure safe working practices
  • Review events placed in the online Event/Incident Management Software. Communicate/coach with the Event Reporter to improve data input to ensure adequate trend analysis.
  • Engage with leaderships team for effective implementation of safety measures
  • Support Health & Safety Reps to take an active and leading role in the promotion of a safe work place.

To be successful in the role, you will possess or demonstrate proven experience in the following:

  • Relevant H&S qualification Level 4 or higher
  • Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Risk Identification and Management.
  • H&S Investigation.
  • Contractor Management.
  • Strong prioritization skills, time management skills, and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • 3-5 years’ experience or worked in a high-risk industry (e.g. manufacturing, construction, ports and/or airport).
  • Identify opportunities to improve health safety and wellbeing through worker engagement and participation.
  • Essential understanding of JSA / SWMS / PTW / Risk Management.
  • Fit for field work and comfortable working around plant and machinery
