With continued growth of the company, we have an exciting opportunity for a Health & Safety Coordinator to join our team in Whitehorse, YT. This is a blended office/site role perfect for a self-starter with strong communication and problem-solving skills. The Health and Safety Coordinator reports directly to the Manager, Health & Safety. Together they will assist the organization to administer, develop, implement, and monitor the company OH&S Program.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in a safety administrator/coordinator role.
  • Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety and/or relevant experience in the construction industry.
  • Superior organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and develop successful relationships with site leaders.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office 365 and various apps.
  • Knowledge of Salus Safety Management software an asset.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Instructor certificates an asset.

Responsibilities:

Site-based:

  • Act as a role model with regard to safe conduct and behaviour.
  • Assist with site safety set up and organization when required.
  • Lead or assist with site JOHSC meetings.
  • Conduct safety activities, worksite inspections and audits. Assist with coaching where necessary.
  • Assist with developing site-specific emergency response plans and ensure completion of required drills.
  • Assist with the development of and then assist with the training on safe job procedures and safe work practices.
  • Conduct orientations with personnel as required.
  • Assist with good catch and site incident investigation processes and report findings to the Manager, Health & Safety.
  • Monitor and enforce Wildstone safety programs/policies on sites, including own forces and trade partners.
  • Coordinate the PPE inspection and maintenance program.Provide instruction, guidance and support to site personnel.

Office-based:

  • Ensure accurate and thorough documentation of all incidents and inspections.
  • Maintain all safety documentation: training, toolbox talks, safety alerts, FLHA, first aid.
  • Lead monthly JOHSC meetings.
  • Prepare and circulate JOHSC meeting minutes.
  • Assist with the preparation of site safety plans.
  • Generate and distribute safety compliance reports to project personnel.
  • Contribute to the development of safety materials/presentations.
  • Assist the Manager, Health & Safety with other duties as required.
