Description:
JOB SUMMARY:
Reporting to the VP, Health, Safety and Environment, the HSE Analyst will support Equinox Gold’s Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) department in understanding the effectiveness of its management programs and to methodically identify opportunities for improvement by providing assessments of management system performance, incident data integrity and associated business processes.
The core accountabilities of the position include:
- Collect and Manage HSE data using practices related to data stewardship, data modeling, and data integrity, ensuring traceability and auditability. Address and resolve data quality issues.
- Coordinate with site HSE teams on incident reporting and ESG data details to improve data quality for the purposes of trend analysis and system improvements.
- Regularly report (monthly/quarterly/yearly) on HSE performance metrics and assess ongoing HSE performance results to continually identify improvement opportunities and suggest corrective actions to achieve desired safety goals and objectives.
- Monitor HSE data and regulatory compliance trends and ensure alignment with regulations and HSE management system requirements.
- Act as Corporate Administrator for HSE software platforms.
EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION:
- Certificate, diploma or degree from an accredited program in the area of Occupational Health & Safety or Environmental Science.
- Data Management / Statistical training.
- Minimum of 3 years of HSE data management and analysis experience in an industrial work environment.
- Expert knowledge of data management and analysis methodologies in an HSE environment
- Experience in industrial construction, pipeline, piling and/or mining industry preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills including oral, verbal, and written communication.
- Advanced knowledge of HSE policies, standards, legislation and procedures particularly in the mining industry.
- Ability to take responsibility for varied assignments, work independently, and manage time and multiple priorities effectively.
- Proactive approach and ability to work with people of different technical and educational background on HSE issues to develop collaborative solutions.
- Strong team player with an ability to deal tactfully with others to develop collaborative solutions.
- Strong leadership skills including strategic thinking, relationship building, teambuilding, ability to engage people to think about their behavioral impacts, ability to position HSE management system concepts within the business process context and the ability to build mutual trust and respect.
- Demonstrates sound judgment through effective written and verbal communication of technical knowledge related to HSE data trends and regulatory change.
Responsibilities:
- Support consistent incident and data reporting across business units and departments.
- Ensure due diligence and audit requirements are integrated into the assessment and analysis of HSE data.
- Support of data assurance processes related to external disclosure of HSE data through ESG reporting and other venues.
- Understand Equinox Golds health, safety and environmental business strategies and recommend improvements as needed.
- Provide training and guidance to help others understand specialty information and the application of HSE policies, programs, procedures and technologies.
- Provide technical understanding of HSE policies, processes and systems.
- Foster a strong corporate safety and environmental culture by demonstrating the required behaviors, attitudes and mindset.
- Support alignment of HSE processes with overall corporate HSE mandates and objectives.
- Support site operations management and HSE Advisors with implementing Corporate HSE programs including ad hoc performance analysis and KPI development.
- Coordinate efforts with other HSE personnel to develop highly integrated programs and services to support HSE management systems.
- Stay up-to-date on all applicable legislation, standards and guidelines to support compliance.
- Maintain knowledge of current HSE management practices, and technologies by monitoring mining industry and regulatory trends.
- Support Equinox Gold as an industry leader in the promotion of innovative and business sensitive HSE policies, processes and systems.
