Grow your Career: Apply for our developmental opportunity! Are you looking to expand your skills and take the next step in your career? We are excited to offer a Health & Safety Internship designed to help you grow and develop in the Health & Safety field.
Reporting to the Risk Management & Loss Prevention Officer, the Health & Safety Intern will provide support to the City’s Health & Safety team. Duties include assisting with inspections and investigations, maintaining the City’s electronic Safety database system to ensure accuracy of documentation, assisting in the development of internal processes, forms, and SOPS, analyzing trends and incidents and reporting on findings, gather/review/distribute safety-related statistical information, liaising with other corporate staff, and responding to internal and external enquiries.
This is a developmental opportunity that will grow top talent while delivering important public services with the intention of the incumbent becoming a Safety Officer for the City of Kenora. The successful candidate may be required to complete paid professional development courses, as outlined below, with an Education and Training Agreement. Internal candidates are encouraged to apply!
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in any field of study or a two-year post-secondary diploma in Health & Safety or a related field of study.
- Must be willing to complete course work required to qualify for the Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation and the qualifying exam within five years from the date-of-hire.
- Knowledge of safety and environmental principles and techniques.
- Strong desire to work in the Safety field and to learn about municipal industry.
- Experience as a member of a Joint Health & Safety Committee would be considered an asset.
- Proficient computer and data entry skills, Microsoft Office suite of applications, and collaboration tools
- Working knowledge of applicable legislation including the Occupational Health & Safety Act, the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, the Employment Standards Act etc.,
- An ability to collect relevant information and provide advice or information to internal and external contacts that complies with applicable legislation, regulations, and internal policies.
- High attention to detail and organizational skills
- Good organizational skills, initiative, and ability to perform tasks without close supervision.
- Must have a valid G Class Drivers License and access to a reliable vehicle.
- The candidate must understand and maintain strict confidentiality.
