EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • College diploma/certificate or undergraduate degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with a specialization in Occupational Health and Safety.
  • CRSP, CRST or NCSO would be considered a strong asset, but is not required.
  • Four or more years direct experience in developing and managing occupational health and safety programs.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of applicable legislation including the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations.
  • Self-directed and able to manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to work professionally with all levels of the company. Must exhibit strong judgment, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with managers and employees in different formats (one on one, training sessions, public speaking, etc.)
  • Proficient in general computer applications, such as MS Office programs.
  • Work experience in aggregate or other construction industries is an asset.
  • Valid Driver’s License and clean abstract as extensive automobile travel across Southern Ontario required.

Responsibilities:

THE ROLE

The Health & Safety Specialist will design, develop, implement and monitor CBM Aggregates’ safety program activities to meet business targets and objectives. They will oversee the management, implementation, and coordination of the safety program to reduce or eliminate occupational injuries, illnesses and financial losses, and develop accident-prevention and loss-control systems and programs for incorporation into operational policies of the company. This role will also support several cement terminals located in Canada.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Travel to locations across south-western Ontario frequently via automobile (daytime and rare overnight travel), and occasional travel to other areas of Canada and the U.S.
  • Work with key company stakeholders, design, develop, implement, and monitor specific program elements that support overall health and safety management system to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Design, develop, implement, and monitor specific operational practices (culture) that support overall health and safety program to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on Health and Safety and provide leadership and consultative support to company executives, management and front-line employees on all health and safety matters.
  • Partner with Operations management to identify, schedule and facilitate educational and training requirements for all employee groups.
  • Oversee and manage the response to an investigation of reports of hazardous or potentially hazardous conditions; reviews recommendations and/or takes appropriate action to mitigate potential safety and health risks.
  • Partner with local management to implement corrective actions identified during audits, inspections, and supervisor investigations, etc.
  • Review and sign accident investigation reports for all injuries/incidents and ensure corrective action recommendations are implemented.
  • Lead WSIB claims management process.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties, as assigned.
