Ray of Hope is seeking an experienced Health, Safety and Training Associate who will steer our Health and Safety program and is also responsible for the coordination of our training initiatives. There will be opportunity to train, along with ensuring that other required training components are being maintained and staff remain current and up to date.
Overview
The Health, Safety and Training Associate will support Ray of Hope in its day-to-day activities with a focus on health, safety and training. This position will act as a lead and a resource for the Health, Safety, and Training programs within the organization and ensure that the agency remains in compliance with current legislation and ministry requirements. They will also maintain the administrative functions of the role as related to Health, Safety and Training.
EDUCATION
- Completion of post-secondary education with a focus in Health and Safety preferred
- Train the Trainer / Concepts of Adult learning would be an asset or equivalent experience in the teaching/training field
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 3 - 5 years related experience
REQUIREMENTS
- Acceptable Vulnerable Sector Check/Police Check
- Valid, unrestricted Class “G” Ontario Driver’s licence – no exceptions due to the nature of the position and the responsibility for attending to health and safety accidents/incidents
- Ministry of Transportation Drivers Abstract through Service Ontario
- Employment Medical Form including immunization record and fitness assessment
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- This position requires the incumbent to work in an office environment with regular requirements to be at “program” locations (one of which is rural). The incumbent will be working in a seated position most of the time.
- This position requires the incumbent to communicate with a variety of individuals, both internally (i.e., employee groups, senior management) at varied levels of the agency and externally (i.e., case managers, claims adjudicators, suppliers, training consultants).
- This position also requires the incumbent to have some flexibility in schedule, particularly for health and safety emergency situations
- The position is a 32 hour per week role.

Responsibilities:
Specific Responsibilities
- Act as the expert resource on Health and Safety Programs, the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and programs, involving research of best practices, problem solving and critical thinking to develop a recommended course of action
- In conjunction with the Director of Human Resources, develop, implement and promote innovative approaches and programs to manage health, safety and training
- Administer the development, management and implementation of ROH health and safety policies, procedures and program initiatives, ensuring policies and procedures in place are in alignment with the Collective Agreement, agency policies and current legislation
- Provide educational related support and training to management on health, safety and related matters, where needed
- Provide advice, and support to leaders in the organization regarding health, safety issues
- As the lead, conduct accident/incident investigation, administration of WSIB claims, management of claims and assist in the return-to-work process
- Participate in Ministry defined Serious Occurrence debriefings
- Ensure Health and Safey Committee meetings occur, are productive and tasks are being completed and documented
- Participate in committees as they relate to employee health, safety
- Establish and develop good working relationships with internal and external partners
- Be available for attending to emergencies, crisis or time sensitive incidents – this may include having to accommodate situations outside of regular working hours
- Distribute various educational packages through HR Downloads, completion follow-ups, recerts and maintenance of records
- Researches and assigns training for various programs/departments within the organization
- Delivers ROH general health and safety orientation training program for newly acquired employees, and addresses additional requirements
- Oversees data collection for all training
- Create and review reports, presentations and surveys and analyze data
- Other duties as may be assigned
