Description:
UPMC Corporate is hiring a Healthcare Architect, Planning to join our team in Harrisburg PA! The role will work Monday through Friday during business hours. The position requires local travel to UPMC Hospitals and Outpatient Centers. The Architect will work a hybrid work schedule, once training has been completed.
The Healthcare Architect works under the general direction of the Manager, Healthcare Facilities Planning and/or Director, Planning and Design to carry out large design and master planning projects for multiple UPMC hospital campuses. This position requires a high level of understanding of the design and construction process and regulatory documentation. This individual must interact with the hospital department heads and senior leadership to manage projects within the established timeline and budgets. The Hospital Architect is also a mentor to the Healthcare Planners and CAD Operators as they develop in their roles.

Responsibilities:
- Work independently and own the planning process for individual hospitals in a customer-focused manner.
- Maintain a working knowledge of existing facilities and the utilization of space within.
- Along with Project Managers, coordinate planning and design personnel, outside vendors, and design professionals to assure comprehensive satisfaction of the end user for all projects assigned.
- Oversee all aspects of the Hospital Master Planning.
- Manage large Master Planning projects, coordinating the resources of the external A/E firm and other resources as necessary.
- Provide mentorship of staff.
- Provide leadership to the planning and design professionals.
- Participate in the bidding and/or negotiation phase of the design services projects to obtain the best value for the work.
- Review construction documents prepared by the A+E firms for accuracy, constructability and value-engineering ideas.
- Maintain an ongoing knowledge of external regulations and the impact on the construction process.
- Responsible for oversight of regulatory documentation.
- Assess current facilities and field-verify floor plans with accurate documentation of configuration and room information.
- Update AutoCAD background drawings for hospitals and other UPMC buildings.
- Develop and document conceptual projects from inception through capital approval and work with other Corporate Construction and Real Estate groups to during conceptual budget process.
- Independently perform special projects as assigned.
- Present projects and volume projections.
- Develop written scope of work documents, programs, plans, and other planning documents to meet the user group needs to understand the project as well as provide a strong understanding of the project for estimating the Conceptual Design.
- Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Professional degree in Architecture (i.e. B.Arch. or M.Arch) from accredited program required.
- Registered Architect (RA) required; must have or be able to receive reciprocal registration in Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
- Minimum ten years of total design experience including four years of planning experience in hospitals, healthcare, or related field(s).
- Must have a planning and design portfolio that contains experience with construction projects worth $5 million or greater.
- Solid knowledge of hospital programming, planning, and trends in healthcare design.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team with accountability for work performed, and to effectively coordinate and provide leadership to assigned team members.
- Comprehensive understanding of rules and regulations for Hospital design requirements including The FGI Guidelines for the Design and Construction of Healthcare Facilities, NFPA 101 Life Safety Code, and local/state building codes.
- Proficient user of REVIT/AutoCAD Architectural Desktop with the ability to create and maintain drawing standards of graphics, annotation, and drafting protocols.
- Presentation skills, including use of graphics software.
- Microsoft Office and PowerPoint proficiency.
- Must be detail-oriented with customer relations and communications skills, both written and oral.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team with accountability for work performed.
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
- Must be proactive and results-oriented with the ability to multi-task.

- Willingness to travel to UPMC Facilities throughout Pennsylvania.
