Description:

We have a new and exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to join the visual electrophysiology service at Oxford Eye Hospital. We are seeking an enthusiastic, well motivated individual with a keen interest to invest in their learning and development. The post holder will have a relevant scientific degree or equivalent apprenticeship training which meets the NHS Practitioner Training Programme.
The post holder will have experience of collecting diagnostic test information on patients. Experience in visual electrophysiology is desirable but not essential as full training is available.
The unit is part of the Optometry Department The post will involve performing standard visual electrodiagnostic tests (PERG, ffERG, EOG, Pattern and Flash VEP, mfERG). There will also be the opportunity to undertake other diagnostic testing within the wider optometry department, including corneal topography, kinetic visual fields and colour vision testing.
Patients are drawn from multiple disciplines across the Eye Hospital (e.g. paediatrics, inflammatory eye disease, genetics, etc) as well as referrals from hospitals in surrounding areas. Oxford is a main hub for genetic eye disease and receives numerous tertiary referrals as well as being involved in cutting edge research with gene therapy.

The electrophysiology service in the Oxford Eye Hospital provides highly specialised technical and scientific measurements for vision across Oxfordshire and surrounding counties. The postholder is therefore expect to
§ Work closely with the Clinical Lead in order to deliver a comprehensive range of highly specialised, complex, visual diagnostic tests on patients of all ages (adult and paediatric) to the highest standards of quality and care. Patients will be from a range of ophthalmic subspecialties both within the Oxford Eye Hospital, wider OUH Trust and tertiary referrals from other centres.
§ Determine appropriate test strategy, as the clinical picture dictates.
§ Provide technical analysis of complex results and where appropriate and within scope of practice,
§ Assist the Clinical Lead with the day to day management of the electrophysiology service. Maintain equipment within both the electrophysiology service and the wider Optometry department. This will include analysing, diagnosing and troubleshooting faults, some of which may occur with the patient present, and liaising with Clinical Engineering and the manufacturers to find solutions.
§ Learn and perform other diagnostic tests such as Colour Vision, Endothelial Cell Counting (confocal microscopy), Corneal Topography (pentacam) and Automated Kinetic Visual Fields (octopus), as part of the Optometry Departments wider diagnostic test support for the Ophthalmology service’s consultant led clinics.
