This is an exciting time to join Ashford & St. Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, as we work on the expansion of our theatres at Ashford Hospital and move towards Ashford Hospital becoming our dedicated elective centre. Our vision is to create a state-of-the-art centre for excellence for planned surgical procedures; with care delivered by dedicated, specialist teams in a modern and well-equipped environment.
We hope to use this centre to create an environment of learning and facilitate training of the next generation of our skilled NHS workforce. We are looking to appoint several roles to support this dedicated site, including this exciting opportunity to join as Assistant Theatre Practitioner.
We are looking for candidates with excellent communication skills, a desire to learn and passion to develop and improve. Previous theatre experience is welcome, along with experience from other acute hospital setting.

Working as a Healthcare Support Worker (Assistant Theatre Practitioner) in a Theatre environment. We are looking to appoint individuals who will be supported to complete the Care Certificate, a comprehensive Theatre Competency Pack along with the completion of relevant assessment to progress to a Band 3 Healthcare Support Worker in Theatres.

Successful candidates will work under the direction and supervision of professional staff, help to implement the safe care of patients in the Day Surgery unit and Theatre complex.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist patients with personal care and hygiene needs.
  • Assist in skin and pressure area care. Under the supervision of registered nurses/nursing associates, ensure patients are helped to mobilise and/or move position to promote comfort and protect skin integrity - Utilise appropriate moving and handling aids to reduce the risk of injury to the patients, others and themselves. - Ad-hoc tasks as may be required from time to time at the instruction of qualified staff but within your limitations and guidelines including collecting patients and theatre cleaning.
  • Communicate effectively with all members of the Main Theatre, recovery and Anaesthetics Team.
  • Ensure documentation is completed correctly, including Surrey Safe Care Peri-operative tracking, Integrated Care Pathway (ICP) including WHO Checklists.
  • Assist with the tidiness and promoting cleanliness of all patient areas, including equipment rooms and storerooms, and take appropriate care of furniture and equipment. Ensure beds and equipment are properly cleaned between patient use as per IPC guidelines
