Description:

City of York Council is offering career development opportunities for Registered Nurses and Midwives to join our transforming 0-19 Healthy Child Service. We are looking for high quality, innovative and enthusiastic individuals with a passion for improving outcomes for children and young people and an interest in becoming Health Visitors or School Nurses.
These are development posts based within our 0-11 Health Visiting teams or in the School Aged Health Team. The role is varied, interesting and fulfilling and provide opportunities to make a real difference to children, young people and their families. The posts also provide excellent opportunities to gain greater insight into the role of the Health Visitor/ School Nurse and varied skills and experience that will support you to successfully complete Health Visitor/ School Nurse training.
Working as a Healthy Child Nurse you will contribute to the development and delivery of public health initiatives to promote the health and well-being of children and young people, enabling them to reach their full potential. You will deliver programmes of support in various community settings, early years settings, school settings and in the homes of families as delegated by Health Visitors and School Nurses.
You will be working alongside a range of partners including early help providers, children’s services, education, housing, adult services, the voluntary and community sector, primary and secondary health services and of course children, families and communities.
Following successful achievement of competencies, there is the opportunity to commence Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (SCPHN) fully-funded training in either Health Visiting or School Nursing dependent on which area the competencies were achieved.
You will be supported by a Supervisor and Practice Educator as a Healthy Child Nurse to ensure that all learning outcomes and competencies are completed prior to commencement onto the SCPHN course. Commencement of the SCPHN course will be subject to final approval by the Head of Public Health (Healthy Child Service).

Hybrid working arrangements are available for this role. Each role at CYC is different and your working arrangements will be determined based on the requirements of the role and in collaboration with you and your needs as part of the recruitment process. Your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team
