Specifically, this position provides the opportunity to telework and work from home anywhere in Texas, even during an initial training period. Applicants do not need to live in Austin but may be required to work in a state office depending on performance and business needs. This position is located at 101 E. 15th St, Austin, Texas.

YOU QUALIFY WITH:
- Hearing Officer I: Graduation from an accredited law school approved by the American Bar Association. Two years of full-time experience as a hearings officer conducting Unemployment Insurance benefits entitlement hearings in Texas or another state will satisfy the minimum qualifications.
Two years of full-time in-service experience classified as an Unemployment Insurance Claims Examiner I or above, an Unemployment Insurance Specialist I or above, an Unemployment Insurance Customer Service Representative I or above, an Accounts Examiner I or above, an Investigator I or above, or a Claims Processor I or above, with regular status, will satisfy the minimum qualifications.
- Hearings Officer II: Graduation from an accredited law school approved by the American Bar Association. Three years of full-time experience as a hearings officer conducting Unemployment Insurance benefits entitlement hearings in Texas or another state will satisfy the minimum qualifications.
- Both Levels: Graduation from an accredited law school approved by the American Bar Association will still be required if substituting experience for education.

Responsibilities:
The Hearings Officer I-II will work in the Agency’s Special Program Appeals Department, which adjudicates administrative appeals in disputed Texas Payday Law cases and related state and federal programs. Performs routine to moderately complex (journey-level) legal and technical work. Work involves conducting hearings and preparing hearings decisions for the appeals process in the Payday Law (wage claim) program. Works under moderate to general supervision with limited to moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
