Description:

The Heavy Civil Association of Newfoundland and Labrador (HCANL), is looking to hire a new Executive Director. We are a non-profit organization that represents the interests and advocates on behalf of companies engaged in the construction, maintenance, and repair of roads, bridges, municipal infrastructure, general civil construction work, etc.
The Executive Director will be the driving force behind the HCANL’s vision, mission, and strategic objectives. This pivotal leadership role will require a visionary who can inspire collaboration, engage with diverse stakeholders, and champion the heavy civil industry’s interests.

Responsibilities:

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

  • Develop and implement advocacy strategies to advance the interests of the heavy civil construction industry
  • Represent the organization in meetings with government officials, industry stakeholders, and other relevant parties.
  • Lead member engagement efforts, including recruitment, retention, and communication initiatives.
  • Oversee the organization’s finances, including budgeting and financial reporting
  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors to develop and implement strategic plans and initiatives.
  • Serve as the primary spokesperson for the organization, including media appearances and public speaking engagements.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including member companies, industry associations, and government agencies.
  • Stay informed about relevant policy developments, industry trends, and emerging issues affecting the heavy civil construction sector.
  • Manage a team of staff members and external consultants to support the organization’s goals and objectives.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLE

  • Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in advocacy, government relations, or a related field, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership role.
  • Knowledge of the heavy civil construction industry is an asset.
  • Proven track record of successful advocacy efforts, including experience working with government officials and policymakers.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex issues clearly and persuasively.
  • Excellent strategic planning and organizational skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, public administration, political science, or a related field is an asset.
