JOIN OUR TEAM AS A HEAVY-DUTY TECHNICIAN AT GFL ENVIRONMENTAL IN VERNON AND KAMLOOPS, BC!
Our Licensed Technicians safely operate, repair, and maintain GFL Environmental owned commercial diesel and alternative fuel trucks, and heavy equipment to ensure its ability to operate safely.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Journeyman designation or equivalent
- Valid Driver’s License
- Ability to work in both our Vernon and Kamloops locations
- Provide own tools and willingness to acquire tools as required for jobs.
- Red Seal is preferred but not required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Ability to perform CVI inspections, and familiarity with transportation regulation.
- Knowledge of tools required to perform repairs and maintenance on commercial vehicles and heavy equipment.
- Ability to follow schedules, instructions, technical manuals and maintenance guidelines, and other procedures associated with the maintenance of company fleet assets.
- Experience using diagnostic software is preferred. Must be computer literate and willing and able to be trained in software systems.
- Ability to communicate effectively across various levels of the organization and communicate with customers and external vendors.
- Ability to be a self-starter capable of working effectively in a team environment or as an individual contributor.
- Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Responsibilities:
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Diagnose and repair complex, modern CNG and diesel engines, and advanced electrical and hydraulic systems.
- Perform repairs and preventive maintenance tasks such as PM and safety inspections.
- Complete required record keeping associated with repairing vehicles, documenting parts usage, and accounting for repair times.
- Review, plan and schedule work as required.
- Mentor apprentice technicians and provide training to complete their apprenticeship program.
- Operate tools, equipment, and machinery according to company safety procedures.
- Ensure shop equipment and tools are kept in a safe operating condition.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area in compliance with company safety standards.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

- Moderate walking, standing, climbing, heavy lifting, carrying, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, grasping/gripping, and pushing/pulling.
- Work utilizing personal protective equipment, including hearing protection, safety-toed boot, utility gloves, reflective vest, hearing and eye protection, hard hat, etc.
- Work outside and inside, around moving objects, vehicles, and machinery with moving parts.
- Physically able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds, and push/pull up to 100 pounds
