As a key member of the Heavy Maintenance department, the Heavy Maintenance Manager, AFF Conversions will lead the modification of 8 aircraft into aerial firefighting aircraft in 4 years. This role involves identifying the resources required and leading those resources as to the fulfillment of deliverables. Additionally, this role involves coordinating with Customer, the contracting company funding the modifications and leasing the aircraft, and Voyageur, the prime contractor responsible for the modifications. The Heavy Maintenance Manager, AFF Conversions will also liaise with Voyageur’s subcontractors handling engineering and parts fabrication, and future firefighting departments that will use the aircraft.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop comprehensive project plans outlining the scope, objectives, deliverables, timelines, and resource requirements, while establishing clear project milestones to ensure alignment with overall project goals.
- Manage detailed schedules and timelines, incorporating all phases of the project from initiation to closure, and maintain regular updates to identify potential delays and implement effective mitigation strategies.
- Identify and allocate necessary resources, including personnel, equipment, and materials, to ensure project success, while coordinating with internal teams and external partners to secure and effectively utilize these resources.
- Monitor resource usage and adjust allocations as needed, reallocating resources from one Aerial Firefighting (AFF) project to another to optimize project outcomes and efficiency.
- Develop and manage project budgets, tracking all financial aspects, and prepare financial reports and forecasts to identify potential budgetary issues while proposing corrective actions.
- Facilitate regular communication and meetings with stakeholders, providing updates on progress, issues, and next steps, and prepare detailed project status reports for senior management and stakeholders.
- Implement quality control processes to ensure all project deliverables meet the required standards and specifications, conducting regular quality reviews and audits to address any deviations from project requirements.
- Identify and address project issues and challenges promptly, managing changes and scope adjustments to ensure all modifications are documented, approved, and communicated effectively.
- Oversee the technical aspects of the aircraft modification process, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements and coordinating with engineering teams to resolve technical challenges.
- Ensure all project documentation is complete, accurate, and up to date, maintaining records of all modifications, approvals, and certifications, and ensuring compliance with contractual obligations.
- Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies, monitoring and managing project risks throughout the project lifecycle and ensuring contingency plans are in place and activated as needed.
- Manage the development and reporting of key performance indicators to monitor and improve the AFF project, focusing on project timeliness, budget adherence, and quality of modifications.
- Define project scope, objectives, and deliverables, secure project funding and resources, and develop the initial project plan and schedule to initiate the project successfully.
- Coordinate with subcontractors for parts fabrication and ensure the timely delivery of all components, beginning the aircraft modification and assembly process while conducting regular progress reviews.
- Perform ground and flight testing of modified aircraft, obtaining necessary certifications and approvals, and addressing any issues identified during testing before preparing the aircraft for delivery to firefighting departments.
- Conduct post-project reviews to identify lessons learned and areas for improvement, ensuring all project documentation and reports are complete and accurate before closing out the project and releasing resources.
