Heritage Project Manager Job Description
Reports to: Vicar
Line management: Heritage Volunteers
Budget responsibility: Heritage Lottery Fund: Trinity 600 budget
Key relationships Internal: Volunteer Manager, Clergy, Commercial and Events Manager, Finance Controller, Parish Administrator, Trinity 600 Project Team, Hull Minster Parochial Church Council (PCC)
Key Relationships External: University of York Centre for Christianity and Culture, University of Hull, Hull Museums Service
Working hours: 15 hours (2 days per week)
Salary: £30,055 pro rata
Responsibilities
This role is responsible for the development and delivery of Hull Minster’s ‘Trinity 600’ Heritage Project 2025-26. You will be a key member of the ‘Trinity 600’ Project delivery team, overseeing the delivery of the project plan. You will develop a year-long programme of heritage activities and events to engage a wide diversity of visitors and residents of Hull with the 600 anniversary celebrations and events. You will work with volunteers and staff to co-design engagement activities, workshops and temporary exhibitions.
· You will help us build on our reputation as a heritage destination within the Old Town sector of Hull, working collaboratively with Hull City Council Museum Service and other local organisations to build Hull’s reputation in community led culture and heritage.
· You will lead a programme of heritage research to uncover the living heritage of Hull Minster including music, performing arts and crafts, festivals, and social practices and explore how they are still celebrated today.
· You will work with York University Centre for the Study of Christianity and Culture to create interpretation boards, digital resources and audio-trails, as a legacy from the project. This will include working with volunteers and Choral Hull in co-design and production.
· You will help to create a culture of celebration and engagement in heritage activities, inspiring staff and volunteers about the significance of the living heritage of Hull Minster.
Key areas of deliveryProject plan
You will lead the development and delivery of the ‘Trinity 600’ project plan.
· Work with staff and the project team to oversee and deliver a year-long programme of heritage engagement activities.
· Promote the project through social media, printed materials, networking, the media and through conversations with people, acting as an advocate for the project.
· Work with the finance officer to manage expenditure and ensure the project is delivered within budget.
· Manage and review the project risk register
· Ensure the project is delivered in line with any relevant legislation, contractual requirements or best practice.
· Put in place processes to monitor progress against the project plan, reporting to the Project Team and PCC.
Recruitment and training
You will work with the volunteer manager to help to increase the number and diversity of people volunteering within heritage activities at Hull Minster.
· Create volunteering roles for heritage research and activities.
· Plan recruitment including external advertising and working with partner organisations.
· Provide training for volunteers, including training in heritage research, public engagement skills and other training relevant to the ‘Trinity 600’ Project.
Inclusion and participation
You will work with staff and volunteers to widen engagement with heritage activities
· Create a range of heritage engagement activities that will attract a wide diversity of visitors.
· Work with Choral Hull to engage the 1,000 children, their families and communities.
· Develop workshops and events for children and young people.
· Develop engaging, creative workshops and activities for people who would not normally attend a ‘heritage talk’.
· Work with the Inclusion Advocate to develop activities to engage people with different learning abilities.
Heritage research and resources
You will be responsible for overseeing heritage research and developing a range of heritage resources.
· Design and oversee a programme of research to uncover the living heritage of Hull Minster.
· Undertake research including desktop, archives and other sources to identify materials relating to the living heritage of Hull Minster.
· Engage with people who may hold memorabilia or key documents about Hull Minster’s living heritage and manage the digitisation of those materials.
· Work with Choral Hull to research and celebrate the rich heritage of music at Hull Minster.
· Work with volunteers to co-design and produce heritage resources, including interpretation boards, digital resources and audio-trails.
Monitoring and evaluation
· You will be responsible for the evaluation of the project and reporting to the Heritage Lottery Fund.
· You will develop an evaluation plan to collect quantitative and qualitative data and enable lessons learned to be incorporated throughout the programme.
· You will ensure data is collected and stored in accordance with the GDPR regulations.
· You will produce an evaluation plan at the end of the project to inform future heritage work and to report to the Heritage Lottery Fund.
QUALIFICATIONS
- BA in History or similar degree.
- Proven experience in project management with a focus on heritage projects
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- Excellent time management and organizational abilities
- Effective communication skills and experience in requirements gathering
- Experience of working with volunteers.
