Description:
HGV CLASS 1 LORRY DRIVER
Location: Huddersfield
Pay Rate: £15.00 per hour
At Buy It Direct, we’re looking for an experienced HGV Class 1 lorry driver to join our team at our Huddersfield distribution centre.
Reporting to the Transport Supervisor, you will be responsible for:
- Yard shunting
- Trailer movements on and off-site and out on the road
- General tasks to ensure the safe and compliant operation of our vehicles
This is a full-time, permanent position, working an 8-hour day shift. Occasionally, longer shifts may be required to meet business needs. A significant portion of your day will involve activities other than driving.
Responsibilities:
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Safely manoeuvre trailers into loading/unloading positions
- Transport stock between sites
- Inspect vehicles for defects and safety issues, reporting to the Transport Department (including various units and trailers based at the Huddersfield site)
- Perform vehicle-check standards and carry out gate checks on departing units and trailers
- Drive the shunter unit to haul trailers on the road as required (manual gearbox)
- Transport trailers to/from garages
- Replace minor parts (e.g., straps, bulbs) and perform wheel changes on 3.5-tonne vans
- Report defects, accidents, and other incidents promptly
- Maintain a high standard of vehicle and equipment cleanliness and condition
- Follow work instructions, planned routes, arrival times, and site health and safety rules
- Adhere to driving rules and regulations, including size/weight limits, route designations, and break periods, while complying with company policies
- Use your initiative to work with minimal supervision
- Drive defensively and avoid risks that could lead to product or vehicle damage
