The position will be with the Human Health and Performance Contract (HHPC) supporting NASA’s Human Systems Engineering Department at JSC, within the Space Food Systems Laboratory (SFSL) at JSC. The Equipment/Production Technician will provide support to the SFSL Equipment Engineer and the flight food production team with tasks related to processing, packaging, and stowage of flight foods.
Responsibilities:

The Equipment/Production Technician will support the SFSL Equipment Engineer by assisting with the following tasks:

  • maintenance and repair of equipment
  • coordinating facility repairs with JSC PAE
  • performing acceptance testing on packaging materials
  • Fabrication of flight items (bottle, spoon, and scissor assemblies)
  • Maintain calibration records of measurement items
  • Drafting test procedures and task performance sheets

The Equipment/Production Technician will support the flight food production team by assisting with the following tasks:

  • Assist in the preparation of food products for flight, including preparation of facility, food preparation, flight packaging, and container stowage
  • Check equipment settings and conduct routine cleaning and maintenance, as required, prior to food production
  • Transfer ingredients and materials between JSC Bonded Storage, KBR Receiving, and the Space Food Systems Laboratory
  • Assist with equipment and facility cleaning operations
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Education/Experience:
1. Required:
o High School diploma
o Demonstrated experience in equipment troubleshooting and repair
o Demonstrated experience in food service or culinary arts
2. Desired:
o Electromechanical or related certification
o ServSafe certification
Skills/Training:
1. Required:
o TX driver’s license
o Ability to lift 20 lbs
2. Desired:
o Electromechanical training
o Knowledge of power tools
