The National Institute for Cardiovascular Outcomes Research (NICOR) is responsible for monitoring the quality of care and outcomes for cardiovascular patients through the collection, analysis and reporting of clinical information relating to cardiovascular patients from NHS and private hospitals in the UK.
This role is 36 hours per week, based remotely working from home with occasional meetings that are usually in London.
The postholder will perform statistical analyses on data from ten national cardiovascular datasets. This includes analysis of data for annual and quarterly clinical audit reports (in PowerBI), consultant outcomes publication and quality improvement processes.

Responsibilities:

  • Development and validation of measures to compare the relative performance of cardiovascular units and/or hospitals
  • Development, maintenance and validation of mortality risk models and other outcome measures
  • Collaboration with researchers working on projects that involve analysis of NICOR data.
    In performing this role, it is expected that the post holder will apply advanced statistical and epidemiological methods.

  • Development of models for risk adjusted measures of process and outcome in cardiovascular disease.
  • Provision of analyses to the healthcare regulators (Care Quality Commission), NHS England etc.; professional societies and Royal Colleges and public facing portals to inform patient choice.
  • Perform statistical analyses on several large longitudinal cardiac audit datasets for annual reporting purposes.
  • Perform linkage of the cardiac audit databases and analyses on the linked data.
  • Plan own workload taking into account urgency of the information required, date required and ensure agreed timelines are met.
  • Work closely with internal colleagues to gather requirements, understand the outputs required and provide accurately time estimates and effort required to complete tasks.
  • Effectively manage multiple workstreams simultaneously and adjust priorities to meet demands and escalating conflicting priorities.
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary, inter-institutional team to contribute to the scientific output of NICOR.
  • Develop and update documentation relating to each analytical domain including programmatic code.
  • Ensure analytical code is regularly backed up to the central code repository.
  • Ensure compliance with internal and national data security, information governance, Data Protection and Freedom of Information Act requirements.
  • Develop data-cleaning processes in a team environment that promotes re-usability of code and standardisation of practices across the NICOR audits.
  • Perform statistical analyses on NICOR data in response to queries from clinical audit leads, health care researchers, and the government, under the supervision of the NICOR Principal Information Analyst.
  • Automation of routine analytical/statistical processes through the applications of tools and techniques that increase automation, such as Python, R, etc.
  • Contribute to the development of measures to monitor risk adjusted outcomes and identify outliers in cardiovascular units and deficiencies in cardiac service provision.
  • Contribute to the development of tools for the measurement of individual and hospital performance.
  • Contribute to the preparation of NICOR presentations and publications.
  • Contribute to meetings, which will include presentation of data, analyses and proposals to internal and external stakeholders.
