Description:

To provide an Occupational Therapy Service to the inpatient Learning Disability Service. To be an integral part of the ward leadership team representing Occupational Therapy. To be responsible for embedding meaningful and productive occupation into the ward environment assessing, devising treatment plans , communicating and evaluating these. To be actively involved in discharge planning back into locality areas, communicating care plans, teaching , training and working with providers to support a good transition from ward to home.
To promote a sensory friendly environment in line with NHSE Sensory Principles guidance. To work flexibly across the service to meet the needs of inpatientsTo be an integral part of the ward leadership team representing Occupational Therapy. To develop newly qualified/junior staff alongside ward leadership team. To be responsible for embedding meaningful and productive occupation into the ward environment assessing, devising treatment plans, communicating and evaluating these.
To be actively involved in discharge planning back into locality areas, communicating care plans, teaching, training and working with providers to support a good transition from ward to home. To promote a sensory friendly environment in line with NHSE Sensory Principles guidance working alongside other therapists within the organisation. Promote good autism practice. Lead on the promotion and development of a positive therapeutic environment for adults with learning disability within inpatient services.
Manages a complex occupational therapy caseload from assessment to discharge within the care programme approach. Service users may have multiple needs with a combination of learning disability physical and mental health needs. Service users may demonstrate behaviours that challenge and may have complex family, living circumstances. Take a lead role to ensure that the highest professional standards and attitudes towards care of service users and their carers are maintained at all times with compassion and in accordance with evidence-based practice and professional guidelines.
Provides specialist advice within the multi-disciplinary team through case discussion, formal consultation, clinical supervision and education. Provides specialist advice, guidance and education to staff across health, social care and third-party providers to maximise the rehabilitation potential of service users and support a good transition from the ward to home. Liaises with care-co-ordinators lead professionals and carers appropriate. Provides consultation to staff of other partner trusts and external agencies regarding the care and support needs of service users in acute care.
Acts as a lead professional for service users where appropriate and may undertake care co-ordination for service users on Care Programme Approach where occupational therapy is the key need.
