There are 2 parts to this exciting role
The patient facing part of the role will provide dietetic expertise as part of the new Steatotic Liver Disease (SLD) MDT project in Gloucestershire by outreaching into Gloucestershire’s brand new state of the art Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC). The project is aimed at identifying and treating those at risk of steatotic liver disease. This role will provide assessment, identification and interventions for altered liver function alongside co existing conditions such as obesity, diabetes, metabolic syndrome and altered liver function. This care will be in the form of 1:1 and group sessions both virtually and face to face.
To complement the clinical part of this role ideally we are looking for candidates who have worked in a wide range of clinical areas and settings including weight management, hyperlipidaemia, diabetes and hepatology. The clinical presentation of this patient group can vary. Through early dietetic input robust assessment by the post holder using their advanced knowledge and skills should help to identify unmet clinical and nutritional needs for this patient group.
The non - clinical part of this role offers the successful candidate an opportunity to design, develop and deliver innovative nutritional interventions to support adult patients with liver disease related to fat accumulation in the liver. This includes auditing clinical interventions with a key aim of this project to reduce severity and progression of these conditions and the need for referral to secondary care for treatments. This will involve a scoping of current resources, identifying unmet clinical and nutritional patients’ needs, designing and developing group and individual patient pathways in delivering nutritional care.
A main part of this role includes dedicated project management time to collect and analyse data from your dietetic interventions, scope the needs of this patient group, influence the designing of new pathways and advocate the nutritional needs of the service users. Your findings will help shape future directions of nutritional treatment pathways for this patient cohort.
We have established dietetic peers in diabetes, specialist weight management (SWMS), gastroenterology eating disorders services. Liaising with these colleagues will be a frequent expectation of this post to ensure good use of resources and collaborative development of new liver screening pathways. The role will also involve signposting to alternative services such e.g. Healthy Lifestyle programmes and local social prescribing initiatives. You will be working as part of the local Nutrition and Dietetics Department, we are a large friendly department with specialist clinical teams across the Trust here to support you in this new role.
