GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

This position serves as a Manager for Health Information Management Section. The HIMS Manager reports to the Revenue Cycle Director. The HIMS Manager is responsible for providing professional consultation, administrative assistance and health record support to the facility and patients. The HIMS Manager provides supervision of many processes and a wide range of duties to ensure smooth operation of a customer-focused department. This incumbent also serves as the organization Compliance Officer.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree OR 3-5 years of Management Experience
  • HIM experience in a hospital setting
  • Compliance experience in a hospital/healthcare setting
  • Possession/Maintenance of an active AHIMA Credential
  • Proficient computer knowledge

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • RHIT or RHIA credential

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ WORKING CONDITIONS:

The position is mainly sedentary in nature but may include standing, stooping, bending, stretching, squatting; must be able to stand/walk for up to 70% of the work day; must be able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. frequently and 50 lbs. occasionally. Must be able to work paying close attention to detail with frequent interruptions

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and supervise HIM staff, including recruitment, training, scheduling, performance evaluations, and professional development.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations related to health information management, including HIPAA and CMS standards.
  • Oversee the maintenance, confidentiality, and security of patient records in both electronic and paper formats.
  • Supports Providers documentation training and analyzes data to identify trends
  • Implement and monitor quality assurance programs to ensure accuracy and completeness of medical records.
  • Participate in audits, both internal and external, and implement corrective action plans when necessary.
  • Lead HIM-related projects, including system upgrades, data migrations, process improvements, and policy and procedures.
  • Provide education and training on health information policies, privacy, and security to staff across the organization.
  • Partners with departments across the organization to ensure continuity of medical records.
  • Implements and supports organization-wide privacy and confidentiality
  • Manages facility and professional fee coding
  • Supports MIPS/MACRA quality reporting
  • Provides medical record review, record processing, medical record file units, document scanning, release of information, transcription and ward administration
  • Provides internal and external customer service
  • Investigates all compliance concerns with the upmost integrity.
  • Participates in various facility committees and acts as the Organization’s Privacy and Compliance Officer.
  • Adheres and supports WCH policies, procedures and practices
  • Maintains the upmost level of customer service and professionalism for both internal and external customers.

Other Duties

  • Attends in-service training and education sessions, as assigned
  • Performs specific work duties and projects assigned by Revenue Cycle Director.
  • Assists in compiling of statistical and quality data
  • Provides interdepartmental communication in verbal or written formats
  • Implements new systems as they occur
