Description:

Title: HIPPY (Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters) Home Visitor
Position Status: Part-Time, Seasonal (approximately 20-25 hours per week)
Salary: $18.91 per hour
Start Date: October 1, 2024
Location: Truro and Colchester County area

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Newcomer to Canada and eligible to work legally in Canada
  • A parent of a three, four or five-year old child preferred
  • A resident of the targeted community
  • Good (functional) oral and written communication skills, including good reading skills
  • Microsoft Office skills (i.e. Excel, Word, Publisher, etc.)
  • Strong time management and organization skills
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to the settlement process for newcomer families
  • Knowledge of activities, programs and organizations that support families in the community
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team
  • Experience working in a cross-cultural environment
  • Experience with outreach work
  • Demonstrated discretion and sound judgement in the handling of confidential information
  • Schedule flexibility to accommodate variations outside of regular business hours, as needed
  • Valid Nova Scotia driver’s license and reliable vehicle essential

Responsibilities:

  • Delivering the curriculum with HIPPY participants successfully
  • Recruitment of eligible family to the program
  • Making weekly visits (make -up visits, if necessary) to participating families through role-playing activities
  • Participation in the planning and facilitation of parent group meetings
  • Participation in weekly in-service training and other staff development activities
  • Keeping the HIPPY Coordinator abreast of child/family progress and familial issues and concerns as they arise
  • Timely completion and submission of required reports and other documentation as required by the coordinator and/or HIPPY program
  • Participation in all sponsored HIPPY activities (i.e., field trips, graduations, etc.)
  • Assist the Coordinator in maintaining an efficient record keeping system of program operations and participating families and data entry to the system
