Description:

North Midlands and Cheshire Pathology Service (NMCPS) are looking to recruit an Advanced Laboratory Practitioner (ALP) in Non-Gynae Cytology. This is a new post formed as part of the North 8 Pathology Network collaboration between North Midlands and Cheshire Pathology Service (NMCPS) and Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH). The post holder will be employed by University Hospitals of North Midlands and primarily be based at the Royal Stoke University Hospital site ( RSUH – 60%) will the requirement to also spend time at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH – 40%) .
Applicants must be HCPC Registered with a minimum of 5 years post registration experience in Cellular Pathology and possess an MSc in Histopathology or equivalent. Candidates must hold the IBMS Diploma of Expert Practice in Non-Gynae Cytology. A suitable management and/or teaching qualification would also be desirable.
We are looking for an individual with proven experience in all aspects of routine histology / non gynae cytology ideally with experience in non-gynae cytology reporting (urines / serous fluid). The successful candidate will join a team of five existing Histology ALP’s (Skin, Gynae and GI reporting).
The individual needs to be highly motivated, enthusiastic, a good team worker with excellent organisational and interpersonal skills. The ability to prioritise tasks together with effective communication is essential. You should have a methodical and organised approach to work. Experience of training and supervising staff, and Lean management philosophies is also advantageous.
The post holder will be required to work as part of a large network team, including the Cellular Pathology Manager, Histopathology Consultant Head of Department, Consultant Histopathologists, Advanced Laboratory Practitioners, Senior Biomedical Scientists, Biomedical Scientists, Associate Practitioners, Medical Laboratory Assistants, Office staff, and internal and external service users.

The Peak District and the Welsh borders are within easy reach and there are also excellent transport links allowing easy access into Manchester, Birmingham, Chester, Liverpool and London.
