Job objectives and responsibilities
As the Head of Function for Reducing Reoffending within HMP Millsike, you will ensure compliance with contractual requirements, company policies and procedures, and HMPPS standards, policies, and procedures where applicable. You will be responsible for overseeing and delivering a range of services across a multi-disciplinary team of staff, including the Offender Management Unit, case management administration, Keyworker activities, Resettlement requirements, psychology, and Interventions.
This role also carries overall strategic and performance responsibility for services provided by our partners that directly relate to Reducing Reoffending. This includes, but is not limited to, Psychology services, families, health and well-being (The Forward Trust), and the Probation Service. Additionally, you will work alongside People Plus, our Education Skills and Work provider, to ensure standards and performance are maintained, specifically in relation to RoTL placements and resettlement provision.
You will also undertake the role of Duty Director and Chair Adjudications, requiring a commitment to completing necessary training. Leading a vibrant and proactive department, you will ensure that prisoner risk and need are met both in custody and on release. This includes engaging with and providing oversight for a number of external service providers to ensure an excellent quality of service delivery.
The successful candidate will support, supervise, motivate, and monitor Senior Staff to ensure an effective service is delivered across the Prison. Additionally, lead on the delivery of a safe, secure, and decent environment, creating a ‘Rehabilitative & Restorative Culture’ for staff and prisoners.
Person Specification
For this role, essential experience includes previous relevant experience in a custodial or secure environment, as well as relevant experience within an Offender Management or case management environment. You should have managerial experience of leading a team of at least 5 to 15 staff and possess intermediate IT skills, such as proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook, along with some experience in updating central data systems.
Preferred experience includes technical knowledge of relevant prison legislation, policies, standards, inspection and audit processes, and knowledge of the wider criminal justice system. It is also preferred that you have completed Silver command training or are committed to completing it, as
well as having successfully completed incident and hostage management training, and adjudication training, or are committed to completing these trainings.
Preferred qualifications include having qualifications or relevant experience equivalent to Level 3 or above. This can include A levels, Advanced Apprenticeships, AS Levels, International Baccalaureate diplomas, Level 3 Awards, Certificates and Diplomas, or Level 3 NVQ accreditations.
