HMRC Payments are responsible for payments in and out of HMRC and future payment strategy. This includes working with banking suppliers, Government Banking Services, HM Treasury, and business areas within HMRC.

HMRC Payments are responsible for:

  • Maximising revenue flow to the Treasury, providing excellent customer service through account management.
  • Processing receipts and payments, reallocating receipts, maintaining customer accounts and reconciling HMRC bank accounts.
  • Dealing with external and internal customer correspondence, telephone calls, forms and electronic enquiries on payment related matters.

This is a fast paced and challenging leadership role, where you will be part of a team with responsibility and accountability for driving performance to meet stretching business targets, whilst actively seeking and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
As a HMRC Payments Officer, you will be required to lead a payment transaction services team on a daily basis, managing work allocation, controlling workflow and providing direction and leadership to a team of approximately 10 band AOs.
Where suitable, employees will be expected to adhere to the 60% Office Attendance Policy.

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Leading in an Operational environment, building strong relationships and engaging with colleagues to balance business needs with individual requirements, whilst also proactively managing attendance and supporting wellbeing.
  • Responsibility for planning to ensure that daily/weekly/monthly productivity targets are met, authorising and assuring process controls and quality standards.
  • Behaving as a role model, inspiring a positive impact on the efficiency and effectiveness of the business outcomes of the team, enabling increased output and a better standard of service for our Customers.
  • Promoting and supporting effective learning, encouraging individuals to identify development opportunities to realise their potential.

  • Managing and improving Government Banking and Payments processes by leading and encouraging continuous improvement within own team, providing support and challenge when needed, to strengthen process controls and uplift business and people results.
  • Using fact-based evidence to support proposals for change that will boost the delivery of business results, liaising with other colleagues/teams when appropriate, making appropriate recommendations and escalating issues and risks as required.
  • Seeking and implementing innovative new solutions, working with a variety of stakeholders and delivery partners to deliver process improvements for both Government Banking and Payments teams and wider HMRC Customers.
