HOME IMPROVEMENT OFFICER

Job description
Full Time / 37 Hours Per Week / Permanent
We have an exciting opportunity for a skilled and self-motivated individual to join the Housing Division’s Home Improvement Team.
The primary role of a Home Improvement Officer is to provide disabled facilities via aids and adaptations to homeowners, housing associations, and privately rented properties. This enables service users to remain in their homes which in turn reduces the demand on other council departments and external organisations.
You’ll be responsible for designing safe and cost-effective proposals whilst ensuring compliance with the Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act 1996. In an extremely rewarding role, you’ll have the opportunity to make a vital difference to people, some of whom may be vulnerable.
We offer a flexible work life balance, excellent salary, and pension. This role is a full-time post, working 37 hours Monday to Friday. You’ll be primarily based at our Mowmacre Housing Office however you’ll be required to travel across the city to undertake site visits or attend meetings as required.

Responsibilities:

As part of a team of 6 Home Improvement officers you’ll manage a case load of grant applications and your day-to-day activities will include, but not be limited to, Joint Feasibility Visits, site inspections and site meetings, measuring, recording, and controlling on-site contractors’ work to ensure the instructions of the Occupational Therapist are carried out and that the completed works meets the needs of the relevant person to enable them safe access to essential services within their own home as instructed by the Occupational Therapist.
You’ll be at the forefront of important decisions such as, initiating action to correct unsatisfactory work and advising on design aspects of a scheme to the appointed contractors on site during the adaptation process, this would involve but not limited to building methods and specifying materials to be used and enforcing Health and Safety and ensuring Risk and Method statements are being followed.
You’ll also be required to inspect and report and sign off on work undertaken, in Private owned Homes and Housing Associations, privately rented properties and Voids, external works or building sites.
