Description:

HOMELESS PREVENTION OFFICER

Gateshead’s Housing Solutions Service is expanding and we’re looking for several new staff to join our team.
Our statutory homelessness service including in our Housing Solutions Team, has several homeless pathways including our Homeless Prevention Pathways for Offenders, Mental Health and Hospital Discharge, as well as Migration, Rough Sleepers and Domestic Abuse Pathways. We also manage temporary homeless accommodation in Gateshead and work with external agencies to provide accommodation and support to people. We are looking to develop our service offer, and are looking for dynamic people to help us to do this.
We have an exciting opportunity for a Homeless Prevention Officer to join our brilliant team on a part time basis for 12 months, working with customers who are homeless or threatened with homelessness and who are involved with secondary mental health services or who are ready from discharge from hospital but have no suitable accommodation to return to.
If you’re interested in joining our supportive and progressive team, and a great organisation with an employee offer and experience that rivals others, then this could be an opportunity you just don’t want to miss.
Please take a look at the full job profile via this link Job Profile. It’s important that you read it in full and explain in your application how you meet the essential criteria.

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Housing Solutions Team Leader you will work with clients who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. You will be responsible for interviewing, assessing and identifying homeless prevention options while working with external partners, agencies and other internal sections such as hospital wards, community mental health professionals and social work teams to improve outcomes for our customers. The post will include home visits to some clients to help assess their situation.
We are seeking a dynamic, self-motivated individual with a passion and commitment to support homeless households. You will have a strong commitment to excellent customer care, equality, diversity and inclusion. You will be an excellent communicator both verbally and in writing.
You will be dealing with people face to face in potentially difficult situations, and managing and prioritising a complex caseload. You will be able to work with vulnerable people and non-judgemental in your outlook and approach.
